I'm glad you recovered. Shingles sounds terrible from what I've heard.

In my case, the shingles itself wasn't too bad (although it can be extremely painful in other cases), it was the side-effects causing the left side of my face to droop so I couldn't close my left eye properly or eat with the left side of my mouth. Fortunately, the steroids cleared that up quite quickly. I'm still left with a slightly dicky left ear though (hearing etc.).

I wonder if she will release medical records. I would love to have medical excuses to explain away most of 2014.

Doubt she will do that unless she absolutely has to. Be interesting to see how this story develops in light of the Sharapova ban or if it will just fizzle out.

ITF anti doping reports
And most other players that year weren't tested ooc...most aren't even tested now.
Serema was out post wimby due to her Pulmonary embolism and her recovery process which lasted till wimby 2011. Iff she wasn't tested ooc thats the ITFs fault not serena's. In 2015 she was tested over 7 times.

Just speculating, Serena might have been on the steroids for treating phlebitis or residual lung effects of a pulmonary embolus. That wouldn't be out of norm necessarily.

Regardless, the idea that people would go on Prednisone or triamcenalone for performance reasons is silly. It would slow your healing and recovery phases during competition. I suspect Venus might actuay be on something like that on an ongoing basis with her autoimmune issues. Alonzo Mourning in the NBA was on Prednisone and cyclosporine after his kidney transplant

I agree it's a joke that some aren't tested when others get loads. However Serena still didn't have a ooc in 2010 when she won two slams.

Maybe the 'proper procedures' are corrupt. And why do some people get exemptions and others not. Not sure if that is fair.
I'm going to assume it is similar to USADA. If you have a medical reason to take certain drug you alert USADA and then they review your request. I imagine this is the same deal with WADA.

If you're referring to Sharapova ("some people") she should've gone through the proper channels.

Prove the procedures are corrupt. Show some proof.

Pova didn't need to get a TUE as it wasn't banned prior to 2016. Well thats what i assume anyway since meldonium wasn't on the banned list.

Oh obviously...but the fact that she hid meldonium from questionnaires about any previous medication that she was taking or she wasn't prescribed to it post 2014 and still took it were massive red flags
It seems though that Serena followed the rules to the letter in this exemption, anyway. :D

Nothing big so far. she probably does juice but this was approved by the wada. Anyway im sure every top athlete is on something. Its impossible to think gatorade and some protein powder is all you need to compete at a top level

I agree, clean sport is an oxymoron. Every athlete has to be on something, it is unrealistic to play sports without enhancements. Even clean herbal products are considered enhancements.

So... remember Serena's weird little incident during Wimbledon doubles? 2014.

That was because she was having an affair with her coach (married two kids), he said he was going to leave his wife for serena, but decided to stay. Serena didnt take it well when he told her. Wasnt in her box (haha literally) for four days

Epo is a growth factor, not a steroid. Just setting your science straight.

EPO (Erythropoietin) is a hormone which is naturally produced by the kidneys. It can be artificially produced and used to enhance performance, endurance. It increases the number of red blood cells and consequently increases the amount of oxygen that can be delivered to the body's muscles. The cells in the kidney that produce EPO are sensitive to low oxygen levels, which is what makes the use of a hypobaric chamber, very dubious. The hypobaric chamber mimics high altitude training, thus subjecting the body to low oxygen levels. The body responds by making more red blood cells. It could be said to be blood doping, without injecting and is probably why Wada declared, that the use of such a chamber 'violates the spirit of the sport'.

So they are allowed to take things on the banned list but sharapova isnt? Why?

LA used EPO which is an anabolic steriod.

Ummm, not it's not. The mechanism by which EPO works would be highly beneficial to just about every athlete, either in competition or during training (the benefit of which carries over to competition even if actual usage has already stopped) but it's not a steroid.

Anyone who is inside pro tennis knows the sport is not clean. Those who believe Serena and Nadal are/were clean are either naive or refuse to believe facts.

When you get into the big figures, cheating is expected. Way of life.

Hell, how many times did goverments poison people for "greater good" and these are individuals that stand to make millions.

I've stopped caring.

When she was caught, Sharapova was taking Meldonium without a doctor prescribing it, without her declaring her use of it and without any ability to demonstrate a medical need for it.

It's pretty simple:

Serena: Demonstrated medical reason
Sharapova: Did not demonstrate medical reason

Serena: Administered by a doctor
Sharapova: Not administered by a doctor

Serena: Declared her intent to use
Sharapova: Did not declare her use

Serena: Applied for a TUE
Sharapova: Did not apply for a TUE

It's really not all that difficult to understand. Some of the substances on the prohibited list have genuine medical use. An athlete can get an illness that requires one of these substances. They are then granted the right to use it.

I've long questioned why undisclosed therapeutic use exemptions exist. There is a point at which you are infringing upon an athlete's privacy, but their usage (however warranted) directly affects their competition. I cannot see the reason why all TUEs are not disclosed upon being given. It would certainly be one right step in an anti-doping process that is opaque and shrouded in secrecy.

Whether it affects competition or not is determined by doctors and WADA. I don't see why anyone's health records should be made public. The invasion of privacy outweighs any right that the public has to know. What you suggest will not stand in a court of law.

Interesting the Western media are calling it a 'Russian hack' and are ignoring the fact that an Olympic gold medallist in Rio failed a drug test and it was covered up. If it was the other way around, the U.S. hackers would be celebrated as whistleblowers and the evil Russians investigated.

http://www.prednisonefacts.com/prednisone-abuse/
"Intentional abuse of prednisone is less common, since prednisone intake is not associated with notably positive or pleasurable effects. On the other hand, anabolic steroid abuse is fairly common in the general population, and according to latest estimates, approximately 10.2% of all male athletes consume anabolic steroids on a regular basis. The small percentage of individuals who abuse prednisone intentionally may confuse it with anabolic steroids."

So, the Williams Sister are taking medication under a doctor's supervision. Informed WADA. And it's like Maria case how?
