Fortunately, in my case, it did the trick although some later blood tests indicated it had had some effect on my thyroid levels and I was told it would take a long while to leave my system. Fortunately again, I have had no symptoms of any side-effects.

I guess I could understand it being prescribed for Venus because she suffers from Sjögren's Syndrome which is an auto-immune disease. So am a bit curious why Serena needs it too.

it is called -- sibling rivalry

So, Simone Biles has ADHD "illness" and WADA allowed her to take drug for it.

Well, I have a tiredness disease, can I have EPO please.

I have a choker disease on match point, can I have exemption for it too and have what Masha had?

Doping rules is a joke. Just be black on white, WADA. Athletes MUST NOT take any drugs and creepy substance whatsoever. They all should just be allowed to eat white bread and water. All will be equal. Developing countries will have more gold medallists. Nowadays it is mostly only the rich and corrupted can win.

It is all about political power, whoever is the most powerful nation gets more leeway. There is a reason why the sports like the Olympics is such a big deal and nationalistic. When Soviet Union was a superpower they got away with a lot of ****. Doping, creating new drugs and there was no enforcement.

I guess no action for a lifetime would excite any little boy, little boy :p
Especially one that has no idea what prednisone does :D change your briefs.

Did you read the whole thing - I'm not referring to the Williams sisters only

Just because some 'doctor' approved the doping - doesn't make it legit. That is laughable logic and tragic at best. The system stinks and it's time for it be exposed and hopefully cleansed the same way they're attempting at FIFA

You guys are terribly naive. It amazes me that nearly no one realizes the problem with TUE. There is a huge grey area there and athletes can easily buy doctors to diagnose a fake injury requiring some TUE to use banned PEDs. It is actually a very smart way to dope "legally".

One very telling exemple: Salbutamol, a banned substance, was originally designed to treat asthma and is not banned if the athlete claims a medical exemption for asthmatic conditions. Well, guess what? 20% of US male athletes who competed in the 1996 OG were "treated for asthma". In some sports such as cross country skiing during some edition of the Winter OG, the percentage of athletes pretending to suffer from asthma was as high as 60%.

LOL

Just mega-LOL
Because people refuse to accept their heroes are doping. I think every tennis player is doping, whether it is PEDs or something like caffeine. Until the ITF are replaced with an independent company, I will continue to suspect every player. I find it amusing that so many elite athletes are so sick they need so many drugs to be able to compete.

You can't dope with prednisone, idiot. I'm not interested in the others besides the Williams sisters, I'm talking tennis. The only "news" coming out of this is that Serena is probably battling an Auto-Immune condition herself. The negatives far outweigh the positives when you have to take oral steroids long-term, something I myself am dealing with. You should keep your mouth closed when you don't know what you're on about.

If FIFA and IOC is corrupt, why wouldn't WADA be?

£$¥€¢ is the King.

Is there any international organizations that we can trust? Corruption everywhere. ATP covered Agassi's drug case and UCI covered Lance Amstrong's. And that's just a tiny of what they are actually covering.

I just want to know the truth, even if my favorite player involved. I'm sick of continuous lies and cheating. Russia has known history of cheating in sport but America is just not better in any means.

LOL - childish insults - is that the intellectual zenith of this TTW behemoth? Are you confessing to being a gym-juicer as well?

Keep burying that head in the sand - it will all pass over.

It's fun to play with you over basic differences of opinion, but when you're wrong, and I know you're wrong, I'm not wasting time trying to sound cute. To you I am a behemoth indeed, and that will never change :D you know who the man is when you need entertainment.

I believe prednisone is a steroid and used to stop inflammation and also for autoimmune diseases. Makes sense for Venus with her Srojens which is autoimmune I believe but what's Serena's reason? 2014 wasn't even a good year for her anyway..
The TUE ran through the Sony Open (Miami) Serena's favorite tournament aside grand slams.

SHE WON IT while on peds.

You can't say it was a bad tournament for her.

2014 she won the US Open,
WTA Tour championship
Miami
Rome Open
Cincinnati
and also Brisbane
Stanford

Not her best year, but it wasn't that bad.

Anyways, you miss the point, and that is she won a tournament while on peds.

She also used it for the French Open final in 2015. Now we know why she recovered so quickly from the Bacsinszky match.

No it's not pedantic and Lewis was not in the leak. Your long rants are boring and tangential and will eventually get this thread moved to the vortex. Whatver. Nothing new is being added to this thread a this point anyway.
I beg to disagree. Other posters called for @Bartelby to join the discussion (even if their motives were less than generous) & he has.
Also, Lance Armstrong is generally referenced in any threads of this nature - a non tennis player.
Anyway back to reading this thread over a morning coffee on the Italian Riviera.... life is good :)

The infamous case of Carl Lewis:

Carl Lewis has broken his silence on allegations that he was the beneficiary of a drugs cover-up, admitting he had tested positive for banned substances but claiming he was just one of "hundreds" of American athletes who were allowed to escape bans.

"There were hundreds of people getting off," he said. "Everyone was treated the same."

Lewis has now acknowledged that he failed three tests during the 1988 US Olympic trials, which under international rules at the time should have prevented him from competing in the Seoul games two months later.

The admission is a further embarrassment for the United States Olympic Committee, which had initially denied claims that 114 positive tests between 1988 and 2000 were covered up. It will add weight to calls by leading anti-doping officials and top athletes for an independent inquiry into the US's record on drug issues.

Last week Dr Wade Exum alleged that a ban imposed on Lewis after positive tests for three stimulants had been overturned by the USOC when the athlete said he had ingested them mistakenly in a herbal supplement.

Lewis received only a warning after officials ruled that his positive tests were due to "inadvertent" use. Some scientists believe the substances could have been a masking agent for more serious drugs, such as anabolic steroids.

Funny, i dont remember WADA hysterically calling for the banning of the whole US athletics team from competition when THIS all came out.......

"he was just one of "hundreds" of American athletes who were allowed to escape bans."

but of course he was American, wasnt he? So that makes it all right, WADA?

Actually no you can't, so be seated.

"The list of possible side effects for corticosteroids is long, including weight gain, sudden mood swings, blurred vision, osteoporosis and high blood pressure.
"If steroid use involves high doses and is prolonged (for a few months to several years), an increase in the number of side effects might occur," the clinic's site states."

I know this means a lot to you guys, but sorry to break the bad news to you.

She took most of them out of competition though. She only took some in less than 5 tournaments in the last 6 years if we look at the TUE's.

Appa based on the OP, it was for nine days only (the authorization date is two days after the expiration).

In Venus's case it is a single intramuscular shot.
The authorization is supposed to be prior to starting the medication.
Other than that is a code violation.
It reeks of a cover up.

Oh and the hackers were Russian. (legit).

The Williams sisters, The Obama family, and all of BLM and their cohorts will come after your head. On a serious note: You've done the tennis world a huge favor by exposing part of the corruption within the sport, especially on the women's side.

On a not-so-serious note: It's been great knowing you, friend. Sad to know we will never see you again :(

Rest in Vegemite, pally.

You guys are so quick to jump to conclusions about other people, as if we didn't already know that Serena and Venus had health issues in the past... did you really think Venus would be still playing if she let her syndrome untreated?

Man of steel, I am only talking about the TUE that is shown at the beginning of the thread.

I have not seen the rest of the TUEs, I will though.

Truth remains that she won MIAMI 2014 while on peds.

No matter how you slice it or spin it, that fact won't go away.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said before, I ain't seen the rest of the TUEs, so I didn't have a chance to check the dates.

But, I am going to tell you something for the sake of clarity, because I see you don't have a clear notion of how the Prohibited List works.

The use of glucocorticosteroids out of competition is allowed.

Only in competition is forbidden, or you need a TUE.

No it was because poor Maria is either illiterate and couldn't read her email + pamphlet placed in her hand + annually updated website that she is responsible for reviewing; or she chose not to read those things; or she employs incompetent people who didn't read those things. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that her family doctor apparently abandoned her and left her to treat her medical conditions on her own for years. Too bad, because he could have filed a TUE for her as well.
You have to use " could have",that's the point. If he really did,his application must be one of the most important files in court.BUT,there is no such an application for TUE neither by her doctor nor herself.Maria violated the code, then she deserves the punishment.

Nothing sad here - apart from the blind denial over the years

Time for the truth to come out once and for all

Cheats out!!!
I hear you ArcspacE, I know how you feel, we are on the same page.

But then, tennis is a business, and for many years (for USTA at least) Serena was a cash cow, basically its only cash cow, so they allowed many things.

Let's see how this unravels.
