Walk Right In, Tsitsipas Right Down, Stefanos Let Your Game Roll On!

Great match! Chair umpire did everything he could to help Nadal, bad officiating, but the young Greek came through. Changing of the guard, look for Nadal to retire soon. He has to much much wear and tear on the body, shots no longer dominate against the younger crowd.

Stef will be up to #7 at least, #6 with a win!

But the next few weeks he really has an opportunity to climb in the rankings.

Even with a loss he's at 3790 points (4190 with a win). He's defending 70 points in Rome and 45 at RG.

Current #6 is Kei with 3860, defending 180 each at Rome and RG. #5 Zed, 4745, defending 600 at Rome and 360 at RG. #4 Thiem, 4845 defending 250 at Lyon and 1200 at RG. Stef could pass them all standing still if they suck the next few weeks, or if he picks up a SF in RG or something.

#3 Fed 5770 defending nothing until grass. (has about 1000 points to defend on grass, but could pick up new

#2 Rafa, 7945 but defending 1000 in Rome and 2000 in RG. If his form doesn't improve he can be at around 5000-5500 easily. Plus 720 at Wim he's not going to defend.

Basically, at this point I expect Stef to be top 5 by end of clay season, maybe even top 3 or #2 if he can do something on grass.

Daunting task to beat Nadovic back to back and it didn’t happen today because he couldn’t make any headway in any of Joe Kovic’s service games, 3&4.

On to Rome and a 2R match vs the 17-year-old WC Italian teen Jannik Sinner, who upset Steve Johnson from down a breadstick and then down match game at 5-3 in the third with Package serving, 1-6 6-1 7-5. That’s house lire the teen will be betting! How far we have come for Tsits to be the veteran in a matchup at a M1K.

Yeah this time last year he was in the qualifying draw at a Rome

Currently live #6. Will pass Zverev for #5 with a final.

junior Wimbledon champion in doubles, if that means anything. made R16 last year, losing to jizzner. in theory his game should suit grass.
In junior singles he lost an epic SF to Shapo the year he and Raitsma beat Shapo/Felix in the dubs final you mentioned.

Tsits shows his guts in saving MP in the fourth set TB vs Fabbiano today at Wimbledon 1R. He had led most of the TB but the Italian journeyman clawed back and held his second MP, this time on his serve. Tsits showed aggression with his return and came in to net to force a failed passing shot, then won the next return point and held his service point for the set.

Should be a great fifth set.

Has all the makings of easy 5th set. Fabbi was choking in that tiebreak.

Don't believe it's his fav surface, best results have been on hard court and clay, I think he just says it as his idols are Federer and Sampras and it's some kind of romantic notion in his mind.

Yeah as I said somewhere else, it's like a young Murray who said his favourite surface was clay, after he trained in Barca as a teen but it really was not his "best" surface,

I wonder how myopic TTW would have been about fedr when he backed up Wimby’01 QF and upset of Grasspras with a 1R exit in 2002 at almost the exact same age at Tsits’ stumble this year. He made his deepest run at a slam last year with a 4R exit at SW19 in a 4,6&6 loss to eventual SFist Isner. If you watched that match you would have seen his inherently strong grass instincts.

Tsitsipas achieved his first victory at WTF (also his first played match) and at the same time he defeated Medvedev for the first time in his career! (y)
Almost tears in his eyes. You could see how much it meant to him.

Tsits cleared up the Bullsheet Russian comment/situation. Just a heat of the moment and match intensity getting in the way.

They are both feisty and both have a history of behavioural issues. Put them together and it's bound to be a difficult relationship, much like McEnroe and Connors. In his book, Connors said they almost came to blows.

Fair play, I don't dislike the young Greek god.
I just can't stand Mouratoglou, and anything Tsitsipas wins will also be credited to that smug weasel.

Some bitter posts from disappointed members, but nothing can detract from the superb victory of Stefanos Tsitsipas over Rafael Nadal earlier today in quarter-final action at the Australian Open. Arguably the moat impressive aspect of the young Greek player's win was that he came back from a two-set deficit to take the match. Only twice before in more than 200 five-set matches had Nadal lost after building such a lead.

The final score of 3-6, 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-4, 7-5 speaks for itself, but is says a lot for Tsitsipas that he was able to come back from so far behind and to successfully serve out for victory at 6-5 in the fifth set despite some ferocious resistance from his Spanish opponent.

With his great physical attributes and his superb serve, forehand and backhand, it might be said of Stefanos Tsitsipas that he is too good not to win a major singles title.

Don't know what to think of the match, Stef seemed to start finding ground in the third but I didn't have a chance to look close. From what I saw today and before, his on-court demeanor has changed, but gamewise he looks the same and tends to make the same mistakes over and over. As someone else has said, he is 'a player of inspiration', well, he kind of likes to counterplay, finding his inspiration in fighting against the odds, this match is exactly the case.

His shots have a lot of weight that it used to lack in the past. His FH was fire in that final set.

Q: When will a Frenchman win RG again, a first since 38 years ago?

A: When Tsitsipas immigrates.

3 of The Soon To Be French Philosopher (Descartes, Sartre would be proud!) 7 titles have been won there and a fourth was earned in their tiny neighbor principality and tax haven on the Côte d’Azur.
