Nike, the Greek Goddess who embodies victory, was smiling down on Court Philippe Chatrier at Stade Roland Garros in Paris earlier today when the Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Alexander Zverev in five sets to become the first player from his country to reach a final at one of the four majors.
A quick race looked like turning into a marathon when the German levelled the match after dropping the first two sets, but Tsitsipas played the better tennis when it came to the crunch and ran out the winner 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3.
On Sunday, Tsitsipas will face the no. 1 seed, Novak Djokovic, in the final after the Serb put in a Herculean effort to dethrone the holder, Rafael Nadal. What would the oracles of old say about the young Greek player's chances of victory on Sunday? Surely Nike will be watching again...
