Want a lower rating? Don't forget to appeal down.

What is the "TLS" rating? Mine is 4.5 but the year end rating is 4.0. I can say for sure Florida does not use tournament data because I beat a lot of 4.5s and about five 5.0s in age group tournaments. My 55 and over 4.0 team is going to be upset with me, I can't in good conscience play 4.0 this year.

TLS has nothing to do with USTA. If you are a year end 4.0 then that is what you are.

The TLS website is trying to mimic USTA ratings with limited success. They have created what they think is the USTA ratings formula and they use USTA match results to calculate a rating. However, it has been pointed out by many that they have inherent flaws in their work and you should take their estimated ratings for what they are ... entertainment loosely based on reality.

Although TLS gives many a good idea what their rating number is. Guys in my area that were in between levels were able to successfully appeal down going off TLS rating.

And Southern does NOT count tournaments into your USTA rating and have not for many years.

Thanks for the explanation of the TLS rating and website, I didn't know that. That is a heck of a good entrepreneurial idea. They package the data better than USTA does and presumably they can sell subscriptions, ads and other services.

If you are interested in more detailed information on your dynamic rating, see my blog in my signature and also the Estimated Dynamic NTRP Rating Reports I can generate. I also have some lists here, I just updated the Northwest Washington one thru year-end, and I'll be posting more.

Appealing down is not constitutional. it imfringes on freedom and liberty of person able to not run into ringers and ability to play opponents of their ability

ohh hush child :)

when someone appeals down they are subject to the 3 strikes rule, however they're not as subject as if someone was a self rated

It is very difficult for me to read this with my head spinning around like a top...
