Watching OSCARS online tonight?

Chances are Dunkirk wins that, too. Not sure about this but I'm guessing whatever wins those Sound categories wins Film Editing.
Yep, no upsets there. Dunkirk was very deserving as well, awesome experience at the theater.

If there's one thing in the film industry I could get rid of for good it would be the odious practice of test marketing. And I enjoyed seeing real public members at last year's ceremony (or was it the year before?). It was probably somewhat staged (that is, the audience probably was told in advance they'd be interrupted if not exactly for what) but nice touch there.

Not very pleased with the pick but dug the heartfelt speech by the Silent Child actress.

From ”The Greatest Showman”?

Yes, that one. Didn't care for the movie at first but I love how it has grown to become the sleeper hit of the year due to old-fashioned word of mouth. Again I might write about it at length later.

Jesus, I am happy to lose my balls to take Gal Gadot to a theatre...

Wow...bun-man had a hot co-worker...

Best to keep it PG-13....:p

As you might have noticed I wasn't a fan of the movie, but do give props to Nolan for trying his hand at a serious subject for once.

. .

Good song, but ”Never Enough” from the same movie is even better IMO.

Yaaaay for James Ivory! Loved his previous work, specially ”Remains of the Day”. ”Call me by your name” is really good as well.

So Peele takes it for Original Screenplay. Still think the horror tropes work against it but glad he got to take something home tonight.

I am glad Blade Runner pick up some technical awards...is a shame such a good movie not being able to perform at the box office.

Missed this earlier. Yeah I suspect its relatively subpar performance at the box office is the biggest reason why it didn't score better on the Oscar stat sheets, which means, despite claims to the contrary, sci-fi films are still judged to be inferior overall and judged accordingly.

And Blade Runner 2049 takes it for Cinematography! Wow I really thought it might go empty-handed.

Ha-ha, I actually think that's the worst song on the entire soundtrack. Just felt it tried too hard with the whole faux-operatic angle.

Someone just mentioned 'deconstructing'. Derrida is turning in his grave, with laughter.

TBF the vernacular meaning has become so commonplace I'm not sure if it even makes sense to criticize it as wrong anymore. Of course you still prefer to see a less highfalutin word that says the same thing.

Military tribute in Oscar reminds me of war time propaganda tools.

Yeah, that came out of nowhere. What was that about? Did I miss something?

?

The character singing that song in the movie is supposed to be portraying the famous Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind. That character didn’t have an operatic voice at all. I did like the song though.

If I had to award Best Song purely by the performances tonight "Mystery of Love" would've won, hands down. Amazing how the Oscar bombast managed to ruin the very things it's supposed to celebrate.

Ferguson actually didn't sing that, Loren Allred did. ;)

Really? Coco’s “Remember me” wins best original song? Really?

It was the slight favorite over "This Is Me." Can't say I'm surprised but I'm still disappointed. :(

I don’t know...I always think a role like The one in 3 the Billiardboards (an angry dramatic antagonist) is sort of tailored to win an Oscar...not saying it is easy, but I always find more quiet roles take more skills.
