Wawrinka is the only player who can stop Djokovic from winning the CYGS

I know he's injured and recently had surgery, but he is supposedly targeting a return at the US Open. He is the only player who can stop Djokovic from winning the CYGS.

Djokovic has lost to these players at the US Open over the years - Hewitt, Verdasco, Federer, Nadal, Murray, Nishikori, Wawrinka

Hewitt - retired
Verdasco - washed up, 37 years old, ranked outside top 100
Federer - 40 years old, injured, can barely beat journeymen anymore
Nadal - has lost something like 17 consecutive sets on hard court to Djokovic. Not beaten Djokovic on hard since 2013. Changed the US Open surface to faster court, so Nadal has no chance now.
Murray - injured, gets pushed to 5 sets by qualifiers these days and gets destroyed by anyone half decent (case in point - Shapovalov at Wimbledon)
Nishikori - freak loss to him in 2014. They've played about 15 times since and Djokovic has destroyed him every time.

None of the young guys have a chance, as we have clearly seen over the last 2 years. Wawrinka is the only one who can stop him. Wawrinka has always been able to take it to peak Djokovic and either win, or give him incredibly close matches where he narrowly loses. Since 2014, Wawrinka is the only player to beat Djokovic at the US Open.

So to summarize: if Federer fans or Nadal fans don't want Djokovic to win the CYGS, they better hope Wawrinka is fit and healthy to play the US Open and meets Djokovic there.

US Open has in a lot of ways turned into his worst (comparatively, people) slam :-D the young fellas will be heaving a sigh of relief to be back on the safe mundanity of hard courts, and don’t forget about that swirly New York wind he loves so much. I’d say he’ll have (assuming everyone stays healthy) more competition here than he’s had at any of them yet.

And everyone was saying Nadal was finished in 2015/16 and Djokovic was finished in 2017/18. TTW "experts" have too much recency bias. If Wawrinka does play Djokovic at the US Open, I think he wins. Obviously it's a big if that he meets Djokovic, with his injuries and beating other players.

My thoughts tend to be centred on wondering if you are on any drugs?

Wawrinka hasn't a prayer of ever making a comeback and beating Djokovic (or anybody else) in a Slam final ever again. He is as done and dusted as all the others you mentioned on your list.

Meddy has some words to say.
Yeah I think a lot of threads will get bumped, including mine. I still think if Djokovic wasn't exhausted from previous matches and it was a night match, Djokovic would win. He was physically gone it looked like. Also Medvedev just played a highly aggressive game and all balls went in.
