Wawrinka reacts to Sinner's "I don't play for money" Six Kings Slam statement

To me he doesn't look dishonest. He is total introvert. What he tried to say is he wants to be number 1, he wants to be the best. Money is secondary.

That's what I got. I am not going to get over hyper for this.

He has a bad PR team. IMO it’s rich — pun intended — to declare you don’t play for money after securing a $150+ million sponsor deal from Nike and that’s just one deal in his sponsorships portfolio. Unless he meant to say “I no longer have to play for money because I’ve locked up a couple of hundred million in sponsor deals.”

After playing in an a very lucrative Exo that only six players were invited to it’s completely tone deaf to make the statement he did; no wonder Stan laughed.

Everyone got paid. What Sinner meant, to me, it sounded like, he plays to be the best, not just for money. That's a scary statement.

There is no doubt it has already happened in pro tennis now. And I’ve already made changes. I cut the chord on my tennisTV and WTA TV subscriptions. I don’t attend main draw tennis tournaments now either.

I spend much more time these days working on my own tennis game than making a financial contribution to professional tennis as a fan because I disagree with the direction it is going in as a spectator sport.

With all the blood money flowing in the ATP, WTA and ITF certainly won’t miss the meagre money I contributed to the sport as a fan so I have no qualms about using it elsewhere. :-D
As far as I am aware, I have never made a monetary contribution to professional tennis.
Just in case, I don't wish to be talked against my statement.

Stan has forehand potency of negative 1 today

If he was even close to his best, instead of Holger, they would invite him and we know how neutral his country is storing Gold for Nazis.

Eizenstat, gold looted from occupied countries and stolen from individuals was transferred to the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to finance its war effort.
This is your weakest post. A personal record. Take a snapshot of it.

Stan plays for money, Stan isn’t winning. Don’t be like Stan…

Find your passion and pursue it with the greatest energy you have and money will find you, while enjoying the highest level of fulfillment.
You are going philosphical rather than practical. Your personal fulfillment is diffrent think than money. Money matters and it matter most when you dont have it.

That's your response, really?

Stan got a good roast in on a very insincere statement by Sinner. And Sinner and Novak are not friends so I'm unsure why you feel the need to stick up for Sinner
My wonder too. He's not holding the line for Novak fans that is for sure.

The Sinner bots gave Stan a few death threats and got him to delete the simple banter of a post.

I perfectly understand the critique of Saudi Arabia and consequently of Nadal's role as ambassador or Judy Murray's function as a tennis coach. Sport is clearly used by the state and entities to project a certain image. However 'sportwashing' can become just like 'greenwashing' a blanket term to suffocate any initiative and development, making progress harder by demanding a sort of perfection from the go.

I think it is quite fitting that this thread starts by ignoring the rest of the answer or even the interview. A young multi-millionaire athlete saying that that he doesn't play for money and 'yes, money is nice' but not more important than loved ones and family after losing a beloved aunt is truly terrible.

Sinner is just looking bad. “Don’t play for money”. Well this wasn’t exactly for atp points, grand slam etc. if he didn’t play for money - then why didn’t he turn it down in a controversial country?
Makes one question what else he’s lying about.

I checked Stan's X, the reply isn't there. It's a fake account.

Please report original slanderous post to Mods.
We have scores of clueless TTW dunderheads "liking" the fake Stan posting and attacking the young Sinner. Disgraceful.
Hopefully the Mods will do the needful.

Wawrinka did tweet it, it's all over the media. He probably deleted it but it was legitimate lol.

People are attacking your new fav Carrot and as usual you are too lazy to take action yourself instead asking others to step up. I’m concerned that if Carrot hits a rough patch you will dump him like you did to Emma. :(

On happier topics, are you close to releasing your EV book? :)

Hahahaha you forgot to take your meds?

I’ve read somewhere that they will pay Rafa 750 million dollars to be their ambassador. I say go for it.
It’s worth every penny for them. Rafa is basically a living folk hero at this point. No one better in tennis to help KSA’s reputation. But I didn’t want Rafa to do it as a fan of his because I don’t like the Saudi Arabian incursion occurring in tennis and golf.

It’s a slightly different situation for Rafa though because he did have pre-existing businesses in Saudi Arabia with his academy there.

Playing in an event in the country is one thing, but accepting an "ambassador" role, however fictitious a "tennis ambassador is, is another depth of involvement.

Absolutely. Very bad decision for me. The Saudi Arabian tennis ambassador role that Nadal has taken on stinks to me. I’m a huge fan of the guy but I don’t agree with it at all.

Stan is the everyday guy like most of us who happened to have a god given talent so when he got in the mood could beat the very best and win slams. He had a personality. Will miss him so much when he retires.

You don't know how to insult Stan so you insult his country instead?

I deeply admire Rafa but it also shows how business ties you down and helps you close your eyes. One thing is a simple trip by a youngster with the lure to play two old legends and a young one but once you have fixed assets in such a country...

The Germans and to a lesser degree the Italians with their industry found that out too. The former have even a nice phrase ‘Handel durch Wandel’ which did turn out a bit different...

I think proactive guys with a can-do attitude and fighting spirit are more vulnerable to the challenge, athletes in particular and who has displayed more than Rafa?

Sinner is a true son of his mountains, you almost never talk about personal finances in public to avoid to come across as an entitled ***

Guess that is a difficult concept for some to grasp :)

And how does playing in an exhibition tournament help him keep #1.

He's being completely disingenuous. These guys are playing in an exhibition tournament that offers huge sums of money, to say that wasn't the driving factor in playing this tournament is almost insulting.

I will say Media Duty Sinner is about as boring to listen to or read about as preprime Sinner was to watch playing tennis

“Unfortunately I have tonsillitis” should have been “sorry guys but I’ve got a new gf and you know how it is in the first few months, the photos don’t lie”

If he had said that he played the exhibition only for money, that wouldn't be really nice to organizers and viewers would it be? The question was stupid and intrusive to begin with.

That’s exactly what Alcaraz said lol and I don’t think Carlos “offended” the Saudi’s since everyone and their dog knows why these tennis players went there for this blood money exho. Only Sinner seems to be lying here and trying to treat us as fools. Not the first time this year though he’s tried that ;)
