He's being completely disingenuous. These guys are playing in an exhibition tournament that offers huge sums of money, to say that wasn't the driving factor in playing this tournament is almost insulting.

He already is number 1 by 4000 pts. The tournies are no issue for him. He showed he is the best in highest prize money event of the century.

If Alcaraz said that, he's been rude. Sinner as n. 1 has a duty to be an ambassador for the game and I think he did it well. The event was a enjoyable and good for the sport in general.
