“It's nothing personal against Rafa or against [Nadal uncle and coach] Toni," Wawrinka said. "We all know, players and umpire, that Toni is always trying to help Rafa. That's normal. That's part of the game. But when it's too much, it's too much.

"Today I didn't agree with the umpire that he didn't tell him something or he didn't give him second warning just because it was Rafa. We all see. I was there. Before every point, he was trying to coach him.

It is excessive and it is up to the umpires to do something about it. Surely the master tactician doesn't need his Uncle no? ;)

Couldn't see anything of the match but that's just not right. I can see how it can be very annoying for a player to constantly notice your opponent interacting with his coach and to have the umpire do nothing about it.

If I can find it, I want to watch the replay to see if it's noticeable on tv.

The slamless one should stop whining. He couldn't close it out against Nadal when it counted today. Who cares if Toni is coaching, it's still up to the player to execute.

Fair enough criticism. If Nadal and his Uncle think the rule is stupid, then it's up to the umpires to enforce it. It seemed like Nadal acknowledged Wawrinka's complaint today.

It matters since it's against the rules, unless one doesn't care about them and think anything is valid.

Yes, I seem to remember getting a short glimpse of Nadal nodding when Wawrinka complained, apparently agreeing that Toni was talking too much during the match.

Wawrinka: grow a pair and stop crying like the little boy you are.

LOL at folks accusing Stan.

There are rules that are being blatantly abused using Nadal's top ranked status and yet it is Stan under fire for pointing out ?

Nadal camp yet again at its cheating best .

There is a reason why he won the sportsmanship award only once. If his peers don't think he is a great sportsman. Whole world knows about his time wasting, fake MTOs, bullying oppenents and cheating by receiving on court coaching. I admire his fighting spirit and achievements but never respect him as a sportsman.

Uncle Toni needs to shut up :)

But honestly, I saw him there and it was vamoses he screamed.
Rafa was so sorry for this.

This is so true. I saw Rafa vs Gulbis at the 2008 Wimbledon, and I was sat very close to Toni Nadal. All match he was gesturing and talking to Rafa, and Rafa was constantly looking to him to pick up any communication. You don't notice it much on TV but when you are right there and can actually see and hear it, it's very clear.

Wawrinka being a sore loser

He was just mad he couldn't manage to win a set despite Rafa playing awful. He isn't going to either if he can't accept he lost fair and square and tries instead to blame it on something external.

You might notice if you read the quote that Wawrinka does NOT think it matters because it's against the rules. Just because it was "too much" according to him. Read the quote again:

Plus, "just because it's Rafa"?. How often do we see players getting warned for coaching, despite the fact it's in fact a common practice?. Hardly ever. And did he miss the bad calls which went on his favour?. I bet if they had been against him he'd be saying it happened "because it's Rafa". Grow up Stan.

Exactly. While Nadal's intensity is something unique that we have never seen before, it is this kind of cheating on a consistent basis that is a major put off.

This is the exact reason why the tour finds him a great player but a poor sportsman.

Ditto. I've sat near the player's box at the Aussie Open and there is a lot you never see on TV. The time I was there Toni was standing up giving really animated motions to Rafa between points - so much so that the crowd nearby were jeering Toni. Some (amusing) guy even shouted out in Spanish whenever Toni started to say anything in hopes (I assume) of making Toni harder to hear.

When you are there it is so blatantly obvious it's not even funny. When people debate whether it even happens or Nadal tries to make out like it isn't a big deal I just laugh.

Total nonsense. They don't enforce this rule against anyone.

The no coaching rule only applies to Nadal, and he is the only one who should be drawn and quartered for it while everyone else is given a free pass. You should know how this place works by now, Crisstti. Lol.

Even then, don't you think that the world #1 should be leading the tour by example? Illegal coaching and time wasting both have to go. When did Federer ever do those things?

Where were you when Cvac was screaming vulgarities at the crowd and the lines people while he was sitting in the #1 spot? Where was your outrage then?

Should also have been punished/warned for. Also Djokovic is another well known time waster. That's the main reason his matches vs Nadal are 5 hour "epics".

Lol yeah, I should know :) plus haters will hold on to anything now.

My opinion of Stan has kind of gone down though. WOuld like Bird to go though but he has to play Rafa while Wawrinka has to play already eliminated and tired Ferrer...

I don't know, but Fed did other things. Including being a sore loser, like his compatriot now.

The world number one should play within the same rules as everyone else. In any case, let's not pretend he's being favoured here because he's Rafael Nadal, because he's not.

Being a sore loser is not breaking the rules. I am asking again, did Federer ever get coaching from the stands or take 30+ seconds between serves like Nadal does?

lol at Nadal fans ignoring the fact that their guy is using illegal tactics (albeit its not really his fault) to talk crap on Wawa. #TeamWawa.

I just can't get it why, why Nike just can't deliver bigger BB- underpants to Nadal?

Of cource I know that OCD is serious sickness. If there were no OCDS I would like Nadal alooooooot more, tbh.

SSRI's with high dose are for that along with other multiple medicins. But this is not personal attack...cause I know OCD is serious illness but despite that I can't help myself to be so annoyed with his butt-picking!

It's very hard to think more strategically when playing so coaching would be extraordinarly helpful in certain situations.

His using tactics everyone uses. In reality, it's allowed to a certain degree.

Wawa needs to stop being a sore loser. And so do you :)

OK. Let's go with racket breaking and swearing at opponents :)

So you are comparing Federer breaking a racket and going off the boil a couple of time over a decade and a half to what Nadal does every match? LOL?

Fed once said Nadal is one dimensional. I actually disagree. He mixes up illegal coaching, time wasting and fake MTO's rather well.

How about Mirka screaming at Fed to move his feet during a match? And wasn't Fed getting coached just recently from Annacone during a match?

I am. Fed also breaks unwritten rules of behaviour by being sometimes quite a sore loser and taking digs at opponents. I'll take Rafa doing what at least half the tour does over those latter things by Fed for sure.

Oh, and Rafa doesn't take fake MTOs.

Toni should shut up!

Wawrinka should have said this in a better way, dissapointet me the way he said it.

For Stan it makes a difference and was a distraction.

Uncle Toni knows coaching can cause distraction whether the coaching itself helped or not.

Rafa has won 26 sets in a row with waw I think.
Not Toni's fault waw lost this match.
