Wawrinka : Uncle Toni coaches too much

He did? Which match was this?

I know you are allowed to talk to people during the rain break but not during bathroom break.

Bathroom breaks are really short I don't think he would even have time...

Don't respond to her. She wants to turn this Nadal thread into Federer thread. It happens all the time.

So, the summary of this thread from ******* massagers is:
1. Stan is a sore loser. He needs to "grow a pair" and he was frustrated.
2. Coaching is not a problem. Who cares! It is fine.
3. Fed also gets coaching. He also got coaching during bathroom break. Looks to me the poster who wrote this was present in the man's room when this happened
4. Again, Stan is a sore loser.
5. Again, Fed got coaching as well.
.........................

The commentator said that they talked over the phone. I wish I had written it down, or could keep up with the notes that I do write, but like I said, I listen to both broadcasts and they're worlds apart on many issues.

What was funny was TTC commentator wasn't trying to rat anyone out. He just didn't know what had been said on ESPN.

I'm actually going to make me a tennis journal to keep up with this stuff.

For example, when Sorana played Serena recently, Cahill was caught on tape repeatedly giving her instructions during the match, but he is a good one to try to call someone else out.

I was wondering if anyone would mention it on the board, but they never did, and I just laughed to myself.

He took his phone into the bathroom with him and managed to have a phone conversation in that time?

The time between sets is hardly anything and there is someone who goes with you so I find it hard to believe that he did that. Are you sure this wasn't during a rain delay? It would make more sense as he would have enough time, have all his belongings and would be allowed to talk to people.

Anyway getting back to the thread. Nadal does break the rule but it is ultimately the umpires faults for not enforcing it before.
Nadal and Toni (and many other players) have probably gotten so used to umpires not being strict about this rule that it doesn't seem to be unfair in their eyes.

Yep, and the umpire is deaf :).

And the massagers are both blind and deaf with their crush on *******.
Please wash the oil stains from your hand and sprinkle some water on those eyes. Stan is not the first guy who has raised this. And he is a world top 10 player for all the "respect" that you girls are extending to him.

It went beyond "normal" levels of tolerance - which means that it is done regularly. ******* and Toni were desperate to win this match due to Year end World number 1 ranking. And that showed up the way it did.

How about Mirka screaming at Fed to move his feet during a match? And wasn't Fed getting coached just recently from Annacone during a match?
Annacone and Federer are no longer working together. Nice try.
As for Mirka shouting that, is this some sort of an urban legend? I've only seen it on this forum.

The slamless one should stop whining. He couldn't close it out against Nadal when it counted today. Who cares if Toni is coaching, it's still up to the player to execute.

Wow! Get outta here!!

So the players that have a slam are allowed to break the rules? Then Federer should be allowed to use his phone during changeovers to talk strategy with his team?

I can't remember the tournament, but he went to the restroom during a rain break, and the commentator was saying that he wasn't allowed to talk to his coach. This is what they said on ESPN, but later on the TTC, they were talking about Cahill, I think it was, who they said talked to Federer on the rain break.

T

Cahill was never Federer's coach. Try harder.

And this "The Truth" fellow was in that man's room to notice all that.
What a troll this guy is

You get only two minutes between two sets. That's it. And Federer doesn't take his bag or anything to the bathroom on breaks if and when he takes them. Plus, Cahill was never his coach or even a friend. Why would he talk to him. Talk about being utterly desperate.

IDK why Fed fans are complaining, if Ralph needs help then why not? Talent isn't exactly oozing out of every pore in his body so he needs the help.

The court is so completely dark durin the match. How could Rafa see what Toni was trying to say. I couldn't see anyone in the crowd during the Games.
Can anyone tell me at what point in 2nd set Stan complained? I think I missed it.

Probably talks to Rafa through his watch :)

I can't believe the level of hypocrisy that goes on in here when it comes to coaching. Has your favorite player ever looked to his box(to confirm a ball mark or anything else)? Guess what, according to the rulebook that was coaching. And I already know what some of you will say - but there is a difference between hand signals and discreetly nodding to your player yes or no for a ball mark. That may well be but in the eyes of the rulemakers, that would still be COACHING.

What kind of a rule is this that you can break it a little but not too much? Why do you think it's barely enforced on tour? Because it's a joke.

The reason why the Nadal camp(who do coach) is fined for coaching once in a blue moon is because they are more upfront with it. If the ATP were serious about this rule, there wouldn't pass a Nadal match without a fine of some sort for coaching. And this isn't because Nadal is famous. In all likelyhood his camp was coaching from at least 2005 if not before and umps still ignored it.

Why? Because these guys know that what is on paper and the reality of the tour is far different, not that anybody wants to admit that. They would rather hush up about it so they communicate(discreetly for most coaches) in peace while the matches are going on.

It is a shame that tennis world no 1 resorts to such cheap and disgusting behavior. It is passable if a guy like Ferrer or Berdych does it.

He is bringing disrepute.

Then why not give the players a bluetooth headset to use during play?

So other members of the top 10 can break rules but not the nr.1? :)

LAWL.

What if they got to nr.1 by abusing this rule, how would you feel about their rule breaking then?

If the rule is so crystal clear then why does Ralph need Toni's help? Is he so pathetic that he can't use his own brain to win a difficult match?

If such is the case, why are players singling out Rafa for coaching all the time ?

Is this because Rafa is very vulnerable ?

That's just what the commentator said. He specified that they weren't supposed to talk to their coaches. I can't remember if it was a rain delay or a bathroom break though.

There are many contradictions though, between ESPN and TTC commentating. Another one was that trajectory of the ball video. Both used the exact same video, but described it differently.

It's very interesting watching both broadcasts, because you get two totally different perspectives.

Clearly you don't mind it since your hero has made a habit of it.

Where was the outrage when Nole's coach was caught giving signals during the USO?

You can't be moral when you only choose one player to highlight. To be fair, you'd have to highlight all instances of "cheating."

If you don't, you too are cheating by turning a blind eye.

If you listen to Stan, it is like everyone except Rafa/Toni is doing 65; and the Rafa team is doing 110.

"Toni is always trying to help Rafa. That's normal. That's part of the game. But when it's too much, it's too much."

I like Wawrinka. He is a solid guy who played great in the USO by beating Murray and pushing Djokovic to the limit. He would not lie after the match.

It's the umps job to decide how much is allowed or not .

It's not Toni's job or Nadals job to figure it out.

Because he is a easy target since his own coach publicly admits to it.

The other coaches do it more discretly and don't brag about it.

If someone says that Wawrinka gets coaching(and boy did he get coaching in the last USO's that I saw), there would probably be some sort of scandal.

Blah blah blah others do it so Ralph doing it is fine blah blah blah. Do Nadal fans ever admit to their scumbag idol's cheating, like ever? Cheaters never prosper and this is why Nadal will never be considered GOAT cause he's a pathetic cheat.

Interesting.

That must be why he condoned "cheating," but not too much.

The irony.

Clearly, other players don't get called out precisely because the top players like Nadal aren't. The other players will never stand being made scapegoats out of openly, when it is blatant that the more powerful guys like Nadal get away with it. So it's pretty much a vicious circle of rule-breaking.

If you think what's Nadal is doing is the norm then you are wrong. Why is Wawrinka called out Nadal? And don't tell me it was because he's mad after a loss. Wawrinka have many tough losses in the past and he never called anyone out for cheating. Nadal's case was too obvious and extreme that Stan was being honest. And Nadal has the history of on court coaching, it could be anyone besides Wawrinka speak up and none of it is an Earth shattering news.

But come on man, we all know that Nadal is responsible for 90% of the coaching that goes on on the ATP tour.

So exactly how much coaching is the "norm".

Doesn't Nadal have millions in the bank, 13 slams and the many many fans? Most people would call that prospering.

Come to think of it,Nadal is actually a criminal cause he wins matches illegally, throw the scumbag moonballer behind bars and award the winner's cheque to Wawrinka.(I don't even like Stan that much but Nadal is a scumbag)

But come on man, we all know that Nadal is responsible for 90% of the coaching that goes on on the ATP tour.

I think Novak's been called out a lot of times (ironically by Nadal fans) for his less than sportsmanlike behaviour. But IMO he learned from the master :) Of course, that doesn't make it alright. Indeed, I've always maintained that Nadal and Djokovic are literally the worst players to watch because they will descend to pretty much any level in order to win in addition to playing one-track tennis. :)

The ATP are clearly hand-in glove with the disgusting Nadal, slowing surfaces down even indoors LMAO! Letting him get away with cheating to win his dirty slams. How else is a talentless hack like Nadal gonna be successful without breaking rules and getting help from his scumbag uncle who is utterly shameless himself.

I can't stand Toni. He needs to stay home and shut up. Even if it is just things like "move your feet" which he admitted to, he just talks too much.

Have you heard of Occam's Razor?

What's more likely, that Nadal is a talented player who keeps on winning or that everything and everyone in the ATP universe is conspiring to make him a multislam winner(with Nadal have little to not talent in this scenario)?

My point exactly. Butthurt beyond belief.

Guess Nadal must be a mastermind criminal since everything he does is OUT IN THE OPEN and he is still a worldwide tennis star.

Well he has blind fanatics like you to defend him no matter what he does and admin at the ATP who think just like you to back him so he's in safe hands. I predict another snarky response from you since you're incapable of having a reasonable debate without attempting to demonize your opponent.

“It's nothing personal against Rafa or against [Nadal uncle and coach] Toni," Wawrinka said. "We all know, players and umpire, that Toni is always trying to help Rafa. That's normal. That's part of the game. But when it's too much, it's too much.

"Today I didn't agree with the umpire that he didn't tell him something or he didn't give him second warning just because it was Rafa. We all see. I was there. Before every point, he was trying to coach him.

This line is hilarious.

So when Tony tries to help Rafa via COACHING, it's normal, it's part of the game(even though this constitutes as rule breaking)

When it's TOO MUCH COACHING(I'm guessing Tony was too vocal or something along those lines), then we step over the line.

It comes back to what I was saying, the thinking on tour seems to be "break this rule but do it quietly, don't be a braggart about it".

Exactly.

He actually told on himself and the rest of the tour with that statement.

Nadal's been called a talentless hack and a dirtballer by commentators ever since he won his first slam and ever since then he's been fighting off that image, but everyone and the sun have claimed the surfaces have slowed down which have benefitted him so the talentelss part still holds good even today. But then again you already know this and have no intention of having a proper debate, instead you make snarky comments as if they were revelations. QUIT STALLING!

Well, let's see, I have given your ARGUMENTS about the use of coaching on the tour(and what constitutes coaching according to the rulebook) and you have called me moron because you don't have any actual retort. My tone has been civilized whereas yours...the less said the better.
