Wayne Ferreira, the third man

After Kriek and Curren in the 80´s, here comes Wayne Ferreria in the 90´s.The third sprinbok to reach a major final, the Australian Open, in the time break of 10 years. He also attended the Wimbledon semifinals.

Good mover, tough server and one of the best FH shots of the decade, similar to Courier´s.His FH should be considered when we discuss all time FH.

He was consistent and had the potential to win an AO, which, since Kriek, has been the Sprinboks favourite slam tourney. He was certainly very good on hard stuff.

I recall a match with Wayne against Hewitt around 2000 in Stuttgart(?).
The shot making from both was phenomenal.

He lives in Berkeley CA now I believe. I have some of his old rackets.

Wayne Ferreira never played in a major final. Did come close though with 2 Aussie Open SFs in 1992 & 2003.

I often forget about him, he started so strong it seemed he had the potential to win slams yet never did.

He lives in the U.S. now. But then so do Curren and Kriek. As well as Lendl, Willander, and pretty much all the successful retired players you can think of.

Wayne was a first class pro. Consistent, strong, fit and talented.

I met him at a senior tour event after he retired from the main tour and he was, again, first class. Warm, friendly guy who was completely down to earth and pleasant to talk to. He is an owner of this cool little business that makes useful water makers/dispensers. Buy his stuff!

Indeed. Very strong guy. Could make way for his heavy forehand and dictate with it.Except against Agassi.

That water thing seems smart. Have you tried it??
