Here you’re going by what you think will be better matches. But there’s no way of knowing. People attending CC matches expect to see the most popular players. And when you have two popular players who have won this tournament numerous times they’re going to get CC billing. It’s not like Fed (or Djokovic) were playing on CC the day they turned pro.

If Wimbledon can prevent Federer’s potential opponents like Medvedev, Zverev and Berettini from playing on centre court before they play him, they have increased the chance of Federer making the final and this is a highly popular outcome which will boost their ratings and media hype. Tournaments have an incentive to make popular players who are media darlings go further in the draw and increasingly they seem to try to make this happen instead of doing more fair scheduling.

Yes they have, lol I remember Novak playing on court arena in 2016, and in 2018 Novak made huge fuss about cc after that Fed was given court one and Fed struggled straight away on court one because of difference in speed, which Med will also struggle as he still have to play on CC .
