We are five matches away from sending an undefeated 18+ 4.5 mens team home from Nationals

I wrote a bit ago on my blog and the week 3 thread that after day 1 and a few matches, there was a decent chance of having five undefeated teams at the 18+ 4.5 mens Nationals, and then one would get sent home and not make the semis.

Well, with all five teams having played three matches, they are all 3-0 and don't play each other, so all being 4-0 is possible and I figure it deserves its own thread. Of course, now that I write this it won't happen ...

Here are the current standings.

Mid-Atlantic - 3-0 / 14-1 / 28-6, plays 0-3 Hawaii
Southern - 3-0 / 13-2 / 27-9, plays 2-1 / 7-8 Texas
Middle West - 3-0 / 12-3 / 26-12, plays 1-2 MoValley
Middle States - 3-0 / 10-5 / 23-12, plays 0-3 Florida
Intermountain - 3-0 / 9-6 / 18-12, plays 1-2 Southwest

It is certainly not out of the question that all five win.

Mid-Atlantic has the easiest path, gotta thing that happens.

Southern has the toughest match looking at records against a Texas that has only lost to Middle West. Texas appears to have something to play for, but can only get to 12-8 on courts and would need another of these five to lose to have a chance so might not have their heart in it? Southern is very good too. Good chance this happens.

Middle West is very good and MoValley isn't bad, but being out of it how much resistance do they put up?

Middle States not only needs to win but stay ahead of Intermountain, and faces a Florida team that is good on paper, but lost three times 3-2 and doesn't have a couple of their better players it appears. This may be where one of the five loses if Florida refuses to go home winless.

Intermountain needs to make up ground to not be the one sent home and plays a Southwest team whose only win was against Hawaii, have to think Intermountain can win this.

Will it happen? If it does, I can't imagine the USTA handles it other than per the regulations and one of the teams, probably Middle States or Intermountain, will be sent home despite not losing a team match.

Middle States won 4-1. First to 4-0. Four to go. Intermountain must now beat Southwest 5-0 to tie them on court record and try to win sets/games tie-breakers

And Intermountain dropped the ball and lost 3-2 to Southwest. This despite Southwest defaulting a court to them. 3D was perhaps the decider and went to Southwest in a match tie-break. Close!

Good luck brother. So where does your team stand? The team that's from southern 4.5. Do you know where they are from? I'm thinking Atlanta or Memphis. Those two areas have some tough teams to play at state and sectionals most of the time.
