We should all unite together as Tennis fans to “potentially” witness history

Ive done some homework on the subject and found out that nobody in the Open Era on the men’s side other than Laver have won the first 3 grand slams in a row ( AO,FO,WI)
Laver went on to win all 4 in 1969. Nadal hasn’t come close to doing this and Federer would have had to defeat Nadal in the 2009 AO final to achieve this. Novak out of the big 3 is the only player to start the year by winning the AO and then the FO, something he has now done twice (2016,21)
The FO, Wimbledon back to back also known as the “Channel Slam” is widely regarded to be the most difficult feat in Tennis other than winning all 4 in a row, mainly due to the complete contrasts of slow, high bouncing clay to fast, low bouncing grass. Only 4 men in the Open Era have achieved the “Channel Slam” and the players pictured all achieved this with only a 2 week gap in between the FO and WIM,something Djokovic is yet to do but if he were to win Wimbledon he would join this club and also be in his own exclusive club with Laver.

I’ll be rooting for Federer all the way and in any eventuality where he wins I will take it. Ive supported him for so long now that it’s almost upsetting to think of his career almost being over and seeing him in Halle was like a nail in the heart…but this is Roger so anything can happen. However……if Roger gets knocked out and due to the absence of Rafa I think pure Tennis lovers would love to see Novak achieve something I and I don’t think anyone else on this board would have seen in their lifetime. (As long as the Novak fans behave themselves and don’t be obnoxious about it )
I wouldn’t give it to Novak though, the quest to win 3 in a row is a ridiculous ask…..

It's all good.

Yes, if Novak wins, he ticks off many boxes. The ride has already been crazy good, lets see what happens next.

If Novak wins Wimbledon, it would set up for an epic USO. The Big 3 would show up (assuming Roger and Roger do show up) standing 20-20-20 with the added bonus of Djoker playing for the CYGS. Tennis fans should root for this to happen no matter who your favorite player is.

I recall in the past other posters showed the data indicate the hardest 2 slams to win in a row are AO-FO

Laver have won the first 3 grand slams in a row ( AO,FO,WI)
Worth checking but my recollection was AO was the 4th major of the year. It wasn't until late 70s or early 80s that it became the first Major of the year.
Uesd to be played over Christmas holidays.
Because of the lack in quality participants if you had FO, Wim and US, the AO was lock it.
I think Mac said if Borg beat him US final he'd travel to AO as competition to Grand Slam.

Nicely put, but one thing is, I find it reductive how it's so conveniently slipped in about Novak fans "being obnoxious" or "should behave themselves" as you put it. There is NO monolithic fan base, my friend. There are loonies in the Fed and Rafa fanbases, as much as in the Novak fanbase. I always say, let the negativity feed off each other, why tar all fans with the same brush? You gotta be kidding if you claim there aren't any obnoxious posters on here who support Fed or Rafa.

Only Laver is better than him. And that’s subject to change.
Hmm.....

I liked watching Borg, Federer, and Nadal (the latter to a lesser degree). Sadly, Laver was before my time.

All I know is I'd rather watch cricket than Novak. And I don't like cricket very much.

Well that’s your personal preference. Doesn’t mean you can diminish Novak’s achievements

I never did.

I just said that Novak doesn't really belong with those other classy gentlemen.

Also noteworthy - I don't see Pete in there. Where's the Sampras brigade's outrage?

PETE never won the channel slam.

Sounds like a a law firm.

These are the legitimate Grand Slam attempts in the Open Era, where someone has started off winning the first couple of Slams in the year

2016 - Djokovic won first 2 Slams of the year, lost in R3 of Wimbledon
1992 - Courier won first 2 Slams of the year, lost in R3 of Wimbledon
1988 - Wilander won first 2 Slams of the year, lost in QF of Wimbledon
1980 - Borg won first 2 Slams of the year, lost in Final of US Open
1979 - Borg won first 2 Slams of the year, lost in QF of US Open
1978 - Borg won first 2 Slams of the year, lost in Final of US Open
1969 - Laver wins the Grand Slam

In OP image it should say Borg 3 consecutive years ie 1978-80

had borg won 1981 Wimbledon instead of runner up
it would have been 4 consecutive years

borg 1st player to appear in wimbledon final for 6 consecutive years (1976-81)
surpassed only by lendl 8 consecutive US Open finals (1982-89)
and fed 7 consecutive wimbledon finals (2003-2009)

on the other hand nadal never reached 6 consecutive finals at FO, despite wining 13 of them

Novak has won every big title (slams and M100s) at least twice. That’s mastery of the sport
No be master is to lead titles won. Djokovic does not. 3rd in slams. Joint with Nadal in m1000 despite huge advantage so Nadal gets the nod there.
As much as i try i cannot see Djokovic being more than 3rd. Sorry bud.
