My girl, Elina Svitolina, begins 2018 as the betting favorite at the Australian Open, her first time in that position. She won the most tournaments on the WTA in 2017 (5) as well as her first tournament of 2018 in Brisbane. At the age of 23, she has added more offense to her world-class defense and movement and looks to capture not just her first slam but the first singles slam for Ukraine.

Elina found success at a young age, winning Junior Roland Garros in 2010 at age 15; she also reached the final of 2012 Junior Wimbledon, losing to Genie Bouchard. She won her first WTA title the following year and has amassed a 10-2 record in finals, steadily improving with 1 final each year 2013-15 followed by 3 finals in 2016 and 5 in 2017. Importantly, she has a major win against Serena Williams, coming in 3R of the 2016 Olympics.

And oh yeah, she's definitely swoon-worthy:

(Also I'm probably single-handedly responsible for her being listed as 5'9 instead of 5'8 :D)

I would take this thread more seriously if I didn't have to look at her XXL men's magazine photoshoot plastered on the first post.

In certain parts of the world she's probably known more for the shoot than her results.

The timing is right, she is in great form and, most importantly, she has a GREAT draw, particularly now that Sloane is out.

She should make the Quarter finals minimum before she really faces anyone who can trouble her.

I agree she has a great chance and would love to see her do well.

I hate to be "that guy" but would also like to second @SQA333 - Not for nothing, but we know Svitolina is very glamorous but we can see the lusty magazine photoshoots and social media photos everywhere. Let's make this thread a celebration of her tennis.

I think she has a great game, susceptible to choking at slams though.

We might be turning a corner. She had previously reached 3R at the Aussie 3 times. This tourney, after reaching 4R for the first time, she bageled Allertova 6-3 6-0 in 57 minutes to reach her first QF outside Roland Garros.

She definitely got too timid in the QF against Mertens, but I said at that time that Mertens was playing out of her mind, the match of her life, and that she would get rolled over by Woza in the Semis.

I was right.

Elina still has work to do on the mental front though. She needs to stay aggressive!

Video of the century. but what can she take out of this tournament and win a major in 2019 ? Remember, Caro won the 2017 Singapore and went on to win the 2018 Australian open also.

She definitely earned this title, coming back from set down and being undefeated is really tough. If she prepares correctly for the AO conditions and other things then she should go far, mentally she might have gotten stronger from this. I really like her coach Andrew Bettle never heard of him before but he really helped her through those matches.

Winning the first one against Kvitova who was 7-1 against her head to head was a boost probably.

LOL,,, all he said to her was " Stay in every point, play every point".... I can say that and more.

I like Svitolina but on her instagram she likes to dress half naked. Hope some of her followers aren't kids.

I follow her on Instagram, a lot of her photos are tennis or fitness related. She posts some sexy photos every now and then but nothing too riske in my opinion. I’ve seen worse posts from others on the gram (oh Canada) ;)

Elina Svitolina has announced that former No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis is now a member of her coaching team, joining Andrew Bettles.

“I’m very excited to announce this news and I’m confident his strong experience will add value to my game, said Svitolina. “With such a great coaching team, I have set high objectives for 2020.”

Baghdatis is a former Australian Open finalist and Wimbledon semifinalist. He retired from the tour in July, making Wimbledon his final event. He finished in the Top 100 for 12 consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2016. He won four career ATP singles title and one doubles trophy.

Excited about starting his “new chapter of his life,” the 34-year-old Cypriot took to social media to share the news.

In October, Svitolina came close to defending her WTA Finals title, losing to Ashleigh Barty in the championship match. For the first time since 2012, she ended her season without capturing a title, but did enjoy her best major results thanks to consecutive semifinal showings at Wimbledon and the US Open.

why is her pants off ?

I enjoy her matches. Sometimes she plays well, but she's always vulnerable to an upset, which is fun to watch.
Me too I like it when Svitolina is upset and eliminated (y)
Not good to have players like Svitolina in the draw, if she beats a high-quality player and then loses, just weakens the draw....

Ostapenko (y) will save us from Evil Svitolina.

Well, if Keys could have hers last year, why not Svitolina this year? If she can beat Sabalenka, she’d be the favorite in the final.

If not her, then I hope pegula wins.
