Weight vs Swing Weight vs Balance

I have read many similar topics on this board and still a little confused...

1- Given a same swing motion/speed which will produce more power, a racquet with higher static weight (same swing weight) or higher swing weight (same static weight)?

2- What about the difference in control in the above example?

3- If I add weights on butt end of a racquet weighing at 330g to increase HL balance, what's the formula to roughly calculate the added swing weight?

4- What about adding weights on the frame head to increase Head Heavy balance, is there a different formula to calculate swing weight in this case?

5- Which change is more difficult to adjust to, increased static weight or incread swing weight?

Thanks

1- Given a same swing motion/speed which will produce more power, a racquet with higher static weight (same swing weight) or higher swing weight (same static weight)? Thats subjective to your swing IMO. How do you strike the ball? Is your racquet head heavy or head light? I added head weight to my head light racquet and I drive the ball much better.

2- What about the difference in control in the above example? Do you feel flexing or twisting in the head during your stroke? General rule of thumb, lead around the 9 or 10 & 2 or 3 oclock spots settle the head down.

3- If I add weights on butt end of a racquet weighing at 330g to increase HL balance, what's the formula to roughly calculate the added swing weight? Not sure what you mean?

4- What about adding weights on the frame head to increase Head Heavy balance, is there a different formula to calculate swing weight in this case?

5- Which change is more difficult to adjust to, increased static weight or incread swing weight? Depends on what you play with now, if the changes alter the opposite of what you currently have, thats the biggest adjustment. If you have a head heavy racquet and get an overall heavier weight head-heavy racquet, you would adjust easier IMO.

Thanks

Go to www.racquettech.com (U.S. racquet stringers association) and join for 1 month for $9. Then you can use the racquet customizer and racquet optimizer to figure out how to add weight to your racquet.

Higher SW will give you more pop for the same static weight.

2- What about the difference in control in the above example?

Well, as far as I know, in general, power is inversely proportional to control.

3- If I add weights on butt end of a racquet weighing at 330g to increase HL balance, what's the formula to roughly calculate the added swing weight?

It's a complex formula. I can't remember. If I'm not mistaken, it was Steve Huff who distributed the excel file for this calculation. I have it.

4- What about adding weights on the frame head to increase Head Heavy balance, is there a different formula to calculate swing weight in this case?

No, use the same formula as above.

5- Which change is more difficult to adjust to, increased static weight or incread swing weight?

For me, I'd say it's more difficult to adjust to the increased SW. Of course, as long the change in static weight ain't way too much from my current "used to" weight (which is already ~360 grams).

Whatever I said above is only my experience. I have a 370 gram racket that's about 13 pts HL with a pendulum-method calculated SW of about 340 and it plays like a dream. Yet, with all that specs, it plays so light.

Don't get way to obsessed in this weight-SW-balance labyrinth. The numbers can fool you at times. By the time you get out of the maze, you might have lost too much of valuable practice time.

If you have enough rackets, experimenting on a few of them would be great, just for fun and knowledge. You'll learn a lot.

... And you'll get to know that a 1-gram weight placed in the right place(s) can make ton of difference.

Happy experimenting!

3. here's a link to swingweight calculator:
http://www.racquettech.com/store/learningcenter/lc_swingweight.html

4. use the same calculator

5. weight added to top of the racquet is more difficult to adjust to as it causes big changes in swingweight. play with the calculator to see the affect; also try taping a quarter at 12 o'clock (pls use something strong like duct tape and take some practise swings; remove the quarter and tape it to the butt cap amd take some practise swings.
