Weiss Cannon Silverstring and Mosquito Bite

I've been playing with the Silversting 1.20 and am really happy with it. I'm thinking about getting the Mosquito Bite as I hope it will be more comfortable than the Silverstring. Also I'm trying some 18x20 frames and thinner strings would probably work better too. I'm thinking about getting a reel of Mosquito Bite without trying and would really appreciate some feedback :)

So can I get some comments on the Mosquito Bite and comparison between the two in

- Feel (Top priority by far. SS has great feel)
- Tension stability, long lasting playability (I will be using the MB mostly as crosses with gut mains so these are important.)
- Comfort. Need a bit more comfort than the SS.
- How MB performs as crosses with gut mains as well as in a full job (SS does both well)
- Any weakness?
- Other things, like control/spin/power, are good know too.

Thanks!

I have been using the Mosquito Bite as mains with gut crosses for about a year. I had always used a gut mains and a synthetic cross up to this point. I also used a full gut string set up as well but we are talking a hybrid on this post. I had read about how it played on a post here on TT. I thought I'd try it with the MB mains. I was surprised how well it played. Nice cupping and control. The MB mains do not, to me, feel like they lose tension very fast since the gut mains pick up the slack. I have them strung at 49/54. That seems to feel and play pretty nice for me. I enjoy the spin and control I get with this plus the nice drive I can also get with this set up. I do not think you would get the same feel, control or spin from the reverse set up ( gut mains and MB crosses). I would try this combination ( MB mains with gut crosses) and see what you think. If you have two of the same racquets I would string one with MB mains/ gut crosses and then on the other one do the MB crosses with gut mains. See which one you like better. You would only be out one set of strings. The MB mains and gut crosses is now my "go to" string set up. So far I have been really happy with it.

I do not think you will find a more comfortable poly than silverstring 1.20 with so much feel.
MB is a great string for hybrids because it is very thin, slippery and holds tension well. If you want to save a few bucks you can buy MB, but in full bed I don't think it will be as good as ss.

It's interesting that you prefer MB/gut over gut/MB - I usually have gut in the mains. I've order a reel and cannot wait to try it out. Thanks for the comments.

Yeah I have a reel of SS and like its all-around performance as well as playing well in a hybrid and full job. Don't know why but my elbow is getting a little bit sensitive and I have read here that MB is more comfortable. As long as MB does well with gut then that's all I ask for.

Another +1 for MB! It's my favorite cross string. Amazing performance that blends with gut like no other.

- Feel is #1, as is comfort.

- Longevity is very good, stays soft and strings aligned after every shot/match/etc. Perfect for 18x20s. Plays great until something breaks, as the tension loss is not noticeable like other polys (as opposed to CoFocus, ALU, Tour Bite, for instance which all plateau and degrade over time).

- I've not used it in full beds; sometimes I use it with other mains, like Typhoon, Tour Bite, etc. Really helps soften a stiff main, without using a multi that would get torn up fast.

- Spin is great, whether it's due to the thin gauge, slippery surface, dwell time... not sure what or how, but the spin is great on the 18x20.

- Power is ample, and control is what you'd expect with a 'feel' oriented cross. You won't get a low-power crisp response like ALU, but neither do you get uncontrollable power like PS Energy after 3 hours. The way it pockets the ball lets you get what you put into each shot: kick, slice, flat are all good to go with MB crosses.

Now I want to try it in the reverse, while I rarely use gut crosses, I may just have to now! Great... just when I told myself "no more experiments" heh

Thanks for all the details; that is music to my ears, especially the ball pocking part :) I've always been a WC fan and from what you described the MB certainly delivers. Fedex online tracking just showed the reel is delivered at the door, can't wait to string tonight a bounce a few balls! Full job shouldn't be a concern, I can try mixing it with the SS just for fun. I might even try a full MB job in my open pattern POG OS to see if I can break them fast :D

Tried the Mosquito Bite over the weekend in a few different racquets. It's a very responsive string with more bite than the Silverstring. Very comfortable and has more power than SS. Nice ball pocketing and really 'bites' the ball. Best part the ball feel is sublime, easily best of all poly I have tried. Not as crispy as the SS. Control is there, even in a POG OS, although SS may have the edge. And it makes a nice big sound when you hit a clean ball. Can't commend on tension stability and how long playability lasts yet. But all Weiss Cannon polys seem to do well in these departments. Very very impressed.

Might want to try MB mains with SS crosses :)
