WeissCannon String Reviews

Dude

New User
Last week I tested two of the new weissCannon strings. I am a full poly user so I strung up a full set of silverstring and a full set of match power. Here are my thoughts:

Silverstring (1.20): This string felt very similar to luxilon big banger alu power. As compared to alu power, silverstring had more spin (which may have been b/c I tested the 1.20 gauge), the same power, and far better tension maintenance. In general, I do not like firm string beds, so this is not a string I will use regularly. However, I recommend that luxilon alu power users try this one out since it feels like a better product at a lower price. Also, b/c this string holds its tension so well, I recommend stringing it a bit lower than your usual poly tension.

Match Power (1.25): Due to the color of this string, I tested it thinking it would be similar to signum ppp. It is not. This string is less firm than silverstring, but is still firmer than signum. I would not call match power a soft poly (like head ultra tour, signum ppp, topspin poly polar), but it definitely doesn’t play as stiff as the stiff polys either. Match power is also pretty powerful. I did not feel like match power gave me as much spin as signum or silverstring (but this could due to the fact that I usually use a slightly thinner gauge). Overall, I liked this string a little bit more than silverstring (just b/c it is a bit softer). I think players who like a medium soft and powerful poly should try this one. Again, because this string holds tension so well, I recommend stringing it a bit lower than your usual poly tension.

Hey, Dude, thanks for the reviews. The WeissCANNON rep in USA says MatchPower retains tension better, is more powerful AND is softer than Signum Pro Poly Plasma. I believe that's what they, honestly, think and I believe you, too. Maybe, they're comparing MP 1.25 against PP 1.23, instead of against PP 1.18. What do you think?

Edit: Or, maybe, MP has such a great tension retension, that it should be installed with less tension (as you suggested) than PP, in order to be able to compare apples to apples.

I'm a big poly fan too and I just tried the Silverstring and Scorpion. Even though I got a set of the MatchPower with the playtest set, I'm not interested in them because the packaging says "high elasticity" and "Excellent for Young Players". I don't like polys that pocket too much and I'm not a young player. If you want a highly elastic copoly then this might be something to look at. I generally like a stiffer stringbed but not quite as stiff as those with full ALU or Big Hitter string jobs. Currently I like the Signum Pro Megaforce which I think is one of the better copolys that people don't talk much about but I like em.

The first thing I noticed about the Silverstring is that there was quite a bit of elasticity in the string as I was stringing it. I had to turn my crack more that usual to get the tension bar to break. For me, it didn't feel nearly as stiff as ALU. ALU is not a copoly and it's stiff. I think most people would agree that it's better to hybrid ALU with a softer string. A full Silverstring string job felt like a firm ALU hybrid string job. I took it on court and I wished that I had strung it up a little tighter. But for the tension it played very well. It has good feel for a poly. It has a slight pocking effect on impact. It reminded me of TopSpin Cyberflash. To me the Cyberflash as more pocketing. I bought two sets of the Silverstring and the next time I restring with it, I'm throwing the 5% to 10% lower tension rule out the window. The tension seems to be holding up very well. I've played about four or five sets of 4.5/5.0 and it still feels the same as the first set. Overall it is a very nice string: spin, power, and tension maintenance.

I'm not crazy about the orange color of the SPPP and I asked the reseller if there was any SPPP type strings that weren't orange. He told me to try the Scorpion string which is a white colored string. After hitting with it, I'd say it's pretty close. It did remind me of SPPP with it's consistent, full and even feel across the stringbed. I tried it in 16g but next time I'm getting 16L or 17. 16g in this string is a full 16. For all you SPPP guys out there looking for something other than orange, I'd say this is the one to try. I've had this string in one of my racquet for a week. Even though I haven't played a lot with it, whenever I do, I don't notice any change in ball response off the strings so I guess it's holding tension pretty well.

Overall I'd say that the Scorpion is more like today's copolys. Silverstring introduces more elasticity than we're used to. The Matchpower, I think, is even more so.

Since TW doesn't sell Weiss Canon I think I can say that you can go to ****************** dot com. They have a special price on a set of all three strings. They call it the Trifecta. They will limit you to one set and hit you up for $5 shipping.
