I really like Jon and he's done great work for SI, TC, and 60 Minutes...don't know how he does it all...nevertheless this was surprising and tasteless...I hope this isn't permanent but understand a suspension...he did apologize to Barbora

It’s an absolute joke tho.

An apology should have been enough.

Media has Kyrgios do commentating but this guy gets canned for a joke about his forehead looking big like someone else’s forehand said on a hot mic.

Really…An apology should be enough. Maybe a limited suspension.

What an insane age we live in.

What some people celebrate is hideous …and what someone people want to end careers over is just cruel.

Unfortunate for a private conversation caught on Hot mike. If all of us had a private conversation accidently recorded and aired to the public..... every one of us would likely be suspended or fired. Just some perspective.

what did Kyrgios say? Jon said her forehead was big and that it was an 8-head, not sure why people aren’t wanting to say what he said.

I didn't even know what an "8-head" meant until I just Googled it. It's a joke off of the word "forehead" meaning that someone's forehead (4-head) is so big, it's twice the size as normal, so it's an 8-head. This actually made me chuckle...

In this case, JW was comparing the view of his forehead in the monitor to BK's forehead when he made the joke. It was self-deprecating because JW does have a large forehead and a receding hairline,and to be real, BK's own hairline does accentuate her forehead. In terms of put-downs, this was pretty tame.

Personally, I think BK is cute in a natural girl-next-door kind of way. Her forehead is fine as far as I'm concerned. I'm the kind of guy that looks at the whole package, and with BK, I see a successful world class athlete, millionaire, and somebody who seems like a nice person. If I were single and she was interested, I'd date her in a hot minute. The fact is that some people have long noses, some short, some people have a weird chin line... there are always imperfections we don't like about ourselves. It sounds like BK is sensitive about this topic, but if JW apologized, that should be the end of this tempest in a teacup. At the end of the day, BK has a few Grand Slam trophies and JW doesn't, so she wins!

All live broadcasts in the US have a 5-10 second delay(eg Will Smith screaming the f word at the Oscars was not heard on US broadcasts, only international feeds), so it's bit weird the TC producers didn't hear him and hit the mute button. But I'm guessing TC producers aren't exactly micro analyzing everything(or have a much smaller crew) like say a producer on a NBA broadcast would(you often hear the audio go out when a player curses in NBA games)

It's not about private conversation. He is feminist, he is the one who questions why Zverev and Kyrgious are allowed to play, and so on. He should NEVER objectify women and joke about woman's appearance, not in private conversation, not on air, not at all.

Jon Wertheim knows more about the world than almost everyone here and it will be a shame if a tennis player is able to abort someone's career like this. Hopefully a 2 week suspension is just deemed enough.

But he’s a professional and knows the smallest slip up can be detrimental to his career.
What really prompted him to say that on air?
Read the room. It’s very unnecessary to make comments like that regarding someone’s looks imo and doing it that way on air - just terrible judgement and decision making.

He’s been around the block for years. He should know better and yet said it anyways. What’s the saying : “if you don’t have anything nice to say - keep it to yourself “.

Whoa -- you aren't trying to blame Krejcikova, are you? She didn't call for Wertheim's dismissal or suspension. But I'd say that any player who has been publicly insulted, and certainly the freakin' Wimbledon champion, has the right to publicly defend both herself and the status of women athletes in general.

The thing is it’s not something he said that was “controversial”. It’s a negative comment making fun at someone’s looks - which is bully-sh and honestly uncalled for. If that’s how he truly feels - keep it to yourself.

Krejcikova is a snowflake. She is generally upset because the western media doesnt treat her like a 2 major winner. Poor Jon got the brunt of it.

Tennis channel is to be blamed should Jon have to quit. I hope this doesnt impact his reporting with 60 minutes. I think his contributions are much beyond tennis.

my tv went out during the baseball playoffs...turned on the local radio broadcast of the game on my stereo...they were like 30 seconds ahead

It may be weak, but it's a part of life. You cannot and should not control what other people say about anyone else. Just accept that some people will say bad things about you and let it roll off. If you can't let it roll off, then that is really weak.

Ok then Jon Wertheim needs to accept that saying negative and insulting things in a bully manner has repercussions. Maybe next time he should keep his thoughts to himself.
