I've never hit with a full Western, but it seems that you can't use your fingers as feelers in the same way since they are wrapped around the front of the racket.
I messed around with a Western just now, and tried using the Web of my hand (between thumb and index) and also tried the part of the palm below the thumb base knuckle as feelers. Both gave me a good notion of where my racketface was facing.
I think feeler points are useful for people learning a new grip, so they know where their racket is facing. However, after a while you kinda forget them as the stroke becomes more natural. So you may not need to bring your attention to your grip if everything is going well.
If you're frequently netting or hitting long, and/or hitting with too much topspin, then this can help.
