I was experimenting with the western grip and noticed that I got more spin, and my shot was more 'loopy'. I am thinking of switching from SW to western as I am definitely a spin-junkie. Any disadvantages?
yea low balls, and very hard to drive balls when u need it. i think u should stick with SW because its a lot more flexible. good for spin and u can easily flatten it out when u have to. and u can drive the ball more to get some more penetration and depth, western will take a lot of you because u are putting more effort to get the same depth than u would with sw. but better results for sure, however, very hard to accomplish.
I just feel like the SW grip is limiting my spin potential. I can see really low balls being a problem, but I usually slice those anyway (change to eastern grip). I guess I'll just experiment a little. Probably get new strings before I decide, as my current strings suck.
Western grips are great for heavy spin and you can create very penetrating balls that aren't loopy. It depends on your skill level. As you get better and better with the western grip you can also handle very high balls and low balls with ease.. Again it depends on your skill level..
The first few months I used the western grip I had big problems with low balls. Now it's not big deal.. Sometimes I really like low balls because I can rip them hard for killer angles.
Do you have problems returning low fast balls and return of serve with the western grip aggresivly? Ankle high.
When I attempted to make a return the ball would bounce on my own side first cause I can't get my racket to open up.
