Do you have a panni press? Makes your sandwich into a cuban, very good

Rice with back-eyes peas (lobia in our tongue).
lobia-recipe-1.jpg

Plus some bitter-gourd on the side. And left over potatoes.

Followed by plain home-made yogurt for dessert.

I had some leftover okra, cottage cheese (paneer) and some "pancakes" made of lentils for brekkie, and half an apple.

Followed by some black coffee.

Wife has had a bunch of work parties at the house lately so we had a bunch of veggies trays left. I chopped it all up in a pan and cooked it with teriaki sauce and sesame oil. Then put in some leftover grilled chicken. Let that simmer and did up Jasmine rice. Turned out great.

dosa or something else?
No, this is a north indian pancake made of either bengal gram or lentils. It's called Chilla.
besan-chilla-500x500.jpg

I have one, or 1.5 every morning, with some left-over veggies (today was Indian squash, and eggplant caviar (bharta), some pieces of cottage cheese (Amul paneer), a little Gouda cheese and half an apple.

I used to have a dosa for breakfast sometimes as a change but the powder i used to buy (MTR dosa mix) contained wheat and preservatives etc, so i discontinued that). Then I moved over to the MTR idli mix, but it is mainly rice based IIRC so I quit that too. What I currently have is higher in protein.

interesting I've not tried this specific pancake, it reminds me of a besan puda pancake that I've had before

you make bharta sound so fancy, calling it caviar lol

are you a vegetarian?

Yes, I have had a puda once. In Atlanta when I visited some Indian friends in '95. I can't remember exactly so i can't say how similar it is. Puda may be a Punjabi thing, but chilla may be more North Indian.

Everyone here does not know besan or bharta so i have to use the closest English terms.

If you are in India or Delhi, you can get a chilla at Haldiram's. It's not that tasty or exciting, but i guess it is healthy.

Yes, I am a vegetarian, but not vegan. I do have milk products.
