Watching Dimitrov play Monte Carlo in 2021 and it feels weird that he has never won a slam, never been to No.1. Back in '14, he, Nishikori and Raonic were hyped as the Young Guns, but that never happened.
My question to the good people of TW is what did you really expect of them? To take over and be a lesser big 3 of their own, maybe with Goffin as the No.4? To be transitional champs with a bunch of other guys from their gen like we had in 00-03? Or did you think it was always on the cards that the Big 3, big 4 even, would continue to clean up at the slams and hold the No.1 ranking seven years on?
Personally, I thought they would take over, around 2016. I never expected Big 3/4 to play out their careers the way they have. I expected the Lost Gen to be a much lesser big 3/4, maybe stay at the top for four or five years before the next gen took over from them. I did not expect any of them to be ATGs, with the most slams any of them winning being five.

I'm disappointed Dimitrov didn't have more success, but think Nishikori, Goffin and Raonic have done better than their talent should have allowed. Certainly more than I ever expected them to.

I never considered that perspective so added it to the poll.
I see it with Raonic in particular. He actually did very well considering his limited but effective game.

they disappointed me by not obtaining access to the latest advances in medicine, and hence instead of delivering prime tennis once they hit 30 years old, they got overtaken by the youngsters
it's a pity that Berdych had to retire, and Nishikori can't play a full season
and yet at the same time people argue that Big 3 longevity is due to advances in medicine

Yes, why would only the Big 3 take advantage of those medicines? It's not as if Lost Gen could not afford it.
I agree about Berdych. He should have been able to sneak a slam somewhere along the line. As for Nishikori, I think he should have won 3 slams minimum.

I'd guess that Serbia has the best medicine in the world
and Spain and Switzerland try to hard to keep it up
while US is probably at the level of the so called Banana republics

I kinda expected one of them to have a Stanimal-like impact. Probably most likely to be Kei actually. Dimitrov’s actual ballstriking isn’t quite there IMHO.

Coming back after time off with a new focus on something, preferably slams. Sometimes man possessed, mostly man adrift, but getting past them two or three times no matter how ridiculous the QF-SF-F draw seemed.

I think Dimitrov could have done that. He kind of got stuck in 2017.

In a way dissapointed that they couldn't take over, surprised that the big3 could keep on dominating some years ago. Now kind of expentant to see if the change of guard will finally happen, or there will be only some instances with a few slam winners, but still bein the big3 the predominant winners.

Big 2 could go on winning the next three or four years with the odd Wawrinka type interval. Who is the Wawrinka though? None of them look physically strong enough or to have his confidence.
