I know there are some rules/officiating experts here....
This is an off-shoot of the shot clock conversation. I was thinking the best way to handle an on court shot clock would have the umpire manually initiating it after every point, that way if there was a long point or other interruption, the ump could give the players a few seconds leniency before starting the clock.
So my question is, after a point ends and before the next point begins, what are the chair ump's responsibilities? Are they keeping some sort of score card? If so, what needs to be marked on it after every point?
Just wondering because it makes the time between points conversation all the more interesting if that is pretty much the only obligation for an umpire between points.
