what do u drive

Know what you mean about certain cars essentially becoming fleet cars. I felt that way years ago with my E-class MB.

It's nice to have something different, like that A5 coupe.
I'm kinda diggin' the Subaru Impreza WRX STI. Looks kind of different (Audi A3-ish) and the performance and reliability is tops they say.

If you need the room of a wagon, the A4 / S4 avant (wagon), A6 avant....all great cars. I went 3 yrs with one and almost 7 yrs with another, then it got ridiculous. $3k for this, $2K for that.

Also, they're coming out with a Q5, small SUV. Probably like a Tiguan?

As for BMW wagons, I vote yes. My wife had one (325ix) and it was wayy more my style than hers. But literally one month after the warranty was up, we had to play for a new water pump and a power window motor. You said it...electronics.

Our neighbor loved her Volvo. But the AC konked out 6 months after the warranty was up.

ANyway, good luck, man. Hope you find what you like.

BTW, they're trying to keep it quiet, but a lot of the Cherman car dealers are doing employee pricing on all models, whether you've got a friend in the business or not. You might be able to trot that out...maybe leverage a good deal, in case that play might work on an A5.

I've only put about 33,000 miles on my rice burner in the past 5 years. I hope the Audi stays relatively fresh.

The BMW guy hinted to me that the final price would be much better than the one quoted to me on the BMW website. I don't think any deal is really applicable on the A5 and S5, they're just too hot. Any other Audi, except the R8, I could have gotten a great deal on. It's already on order, I've agreed to the price, now it's just a waiting game. I hope I get a car that's just freakishly durable, like the anti-lemon. That and I didn't get tons of add-ons anyway to really increase the chances of electronic melt down.

^ I've got to seriously spend some time rediscovering the art of serving before we play, Granite. :) But yeah, it's only a matter of time before I check out this Santa Barbara place everybody keeps gushing about and you can be sure I'll bring my sticks.

you cant beat a sti.

My ride:) I haven't driven my car for a week and a half and I am proud of myself. Oh and the tires are necessary where I live. I cannot get away with road tires, as much as I would like.

I was thinking about the 335 but I think it looks booty. Performance wise, by all accounts, it blows away the Audi's.

With spirited driving, the more aggressive car would probably satisfy you, but the A5 looks stunning just rolling down the street. IMO, the A5 looks many times better than an e90 coupe--even though they look pretty similar in sheet metal.

Yeah, I think it looks better too. I like it's more refined look. That's why I didn't even consider the S-Line stuff.

I would simply never be using the 335 in ways that it excels over the A5. My friend just got a fully loaded 335 and another friend said it was the nicest handling car he's ever driven and the clutch was smooth as silk.

I've only driven the e90 335, and FYI, it felt a lot better than the mercedes. The steering and gas pedal feel are pretty communicative, and the whole car feels as though it's connected to my body; whatever I wanted, the car would do. It was just a lot of fun driving down the street, making turns, and gunning it at the lights. Made me feel sad when I drove home in my POS MB. Never drove the A5, so I have no idea on how that feels in comparison.

^ My friend works at VW/Audi, and found out that the Friends and Family Certificate didn't apply to A5's. Not sure what this new thing is, but he pointed out the certificate ultimately was voluntary, the dealers are independent businesses, they didn't have to honor Audi's wishes, although he said 98% they did (then corporate would owe THEM a favor).

Anyway, maybe I'll look into it, but I wanted a very specific A5 configuration, ordered it, and should be in late October which is when I have to start signing stuff so I still have time if something develops.

Drove a friend's 335i last night. Haven't driven a stick in a long time and it showed. Very nice handling. Sucked that downtown LA was so busy last night for some weird reason, lots of people and cars driving around. But nicest car I've ever driven I think in terms of handling and responsiveness. The engine sounded like it could just keep accelerating forever.

But definitely galvanized my belief that unless it's a second car, a stick just doesn't make sense in LA. 90% of your driving is in stop and crawl traffic anyways.

Wow, i thought my thread died a long time ago. I stopped having tennis equipment problems so im never on the forum anymore since then a lot has changed.

I finally have a car to post up. Which i am so proud to have. 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon! Its a five speed and has about 82500 miles on it, heres a pic of my beauty...

click twice for a bigger picture.

I love my car because it is so unique especially becuase no one has a Subaru where I live. I also love the amazing boxer rumble!
Ive done a few things to it like full exaust, An Alpine radio and speakers, and i removed the roof rails. Learning to drive stick wasnt that hard at all. I learned on a truck and my clutch is alot heavier for sure. Its a blast to drive with all the turbocharged power.....

Just got my new car finally!!!!! What a ridiculous wait. Anyway:

IMG_0316_2.jpg

Taken with iPhone. Maybe better pics later. Anyway, paid more than I originally wanted to when I first started thinking about a new car, about $20,000 more, but I have absolutely no regrets. In the end, I figured, I come this far, so I spent extra to buy tire and paint coverage and protection, and Lojack. Going to get windows tinted and a clear bra, and I should be able to drive this with completely peace of mind. iPhone and iPod linked flawlessly. Feels great but what the hell do I know? Seriously, this is my first nice car, don't have a frame of reference for handling. I got it for the interior finish, the comfort, etc. Anyway. Waited 9 months for this. Can't believe how long it took.

Waited 9 months for an A4? Enjoy it in good health!

^ Thanks, mang! We should play doubles again soonish. I know I know. We're all very busy people. Maybe in the summer. Gotta find a way to not sweat all over the seats. Ugh.

I'm not home at the moment, but when I am home, my family has 3 cars, all of which I drive. They are:

2008 Lexus IS350
2006 Toyota Prius
2000 GMC Yukon

I hate the Yukon, and I love the Lexus. The Prius is just kind of sitting there, but I love it as well, especially during the high gas price times of last summer, when all my friends were filling up on 4+ a barrel getting 20-35 a gallon highway, I was getting 55-70 a gallon highway, and 40 city. Whats good.

This thread is still alive huh? Anyways, congrats man on the new A5. I can only dream to drive one. Audi's for me are very fun cars to drive, very understated. I hope it doesn't give you any major problems. I had an A4 and loved that car. I guess we wont be seeing you around here a lot.....for good reasons. Enjoy...

PS... do the A5s have the push button ignition? Just curious...

Well done, 35ft6. Great choice, man, you've got really good taste. I love Audis. The handling is just amazing. Great feel. Congrats on one of the best-looking cars on the road today. My buddy's got one, and I fit in the back seat just fine (and I'm a broad 6foot guy).

I've always been a fan of the strong, solidd European autos. I've had two Mercedes-Benzes, two Audis and one Bimmer over the years, and if there's any advice I've got for you about German cars:

Keep them well-maintained, and, just in case, have about $4 to 5K a year socked away for maintenance and stuff once they get over 5 years old. They don't build them like they used to (think pre-merger E-class tanks).
Sell them right around the time the warranty runs out. Preferably right before, since, off warranty, they do not hold their value very well. Well, it's about the journey, not the money.

Enjoy the ride, man. She's a beauty.

^^ Thanks, SBHComp! I've been saving up for it. I'm not making so much money I could just wake up one morning and go to the dealership and get it. It took a lot of thought and saving. But it's still within my means.

Yeah, I have the convenience key or whatever you call it. If it's in your pocket, you just open the door, it unlocks automatically. And you just push start the car. So many gadgets in this car, it's cool but also makes me nervous. I'm going to become very intimate with the fuse boxes I think. Speaking of which, I need to get some Audi approved replacement fuses from the dealer.

2000 VW Passat V6

The Cadi looks to edged out for my taste, not enough curves, I hate when cars start to get too futuristic, like the make cars start to look like stealth fighters.

Post some of the interior pics if you can (or I can look it up from the website lol). I'm so happy for you. Way to go, you wanted a nice car and you jumped ahead to an A5. Handling, I think Audi have one of the best. It just makes the drive more fun. You have quattro? Does it snow where you are? Anyways, have fun man.....

'95 Miata R. I had a fender bender this Christmas break and it felt like someone broke a part of me : (. It's going to be with me until one of us dies.

The CTS looks pretty cool, though.

I'll post interior pics soon. Haven't really taken time to take some good photos. No, I live in So Cal, no snow. It handles great, much smoother than my friend's BMW, but his is a sport car, and definitely seemed faster and more nimble, but I wanted smoothness and comfort, so I got what I paid for. Just gotta figure out a system for cleaning myself up a bit, like my hands, before getting in after 3 hours of tennis in the afternoon California sun.
