What do you charge for the strings?

What does everyone charge for the strings you supply? Do you charge only your costs (including taxes and shipping)? I charge around $2 more than cost for my cheaper strings and around $4 for the more expensive ones.

I also charge the single set cost even if I use a reel and the cost per string job is less. I don't pass the savings on to my customers since I have to carry the costs of the additional inventory.

I live in Los Angeles and my stringing fee is $11 if I use my strings and $13 if they supply the strings. I only string for my tennis buddies at my club and do less than 100 string jobs (including my own) a year.

At the local shop, 30 bucks per (unsupplied). I need to learn how to string.
insane!!!!
here (in argentina) string job its cheap (no more than $10 "pesos"= u$s 3.5)
here some examples (string+work):
luxilon BB original : $50 = u$s 16
kirshbaum Supersmash: $ 22 = u$s 7.5

In USA the charges for the string are very high.

Most stores around here "bundle" strings and stringing and don't charge less if the customer supplies the string. The few places that do stringing only charge $12 - $20.

I strung for my HS team the past two years and I charged $12 no matter what string I used (of course, everyone always wanted PSG). There was another guy who was doing it before me for $15 (yes, a teammate), so I had to undercut the competition and went to $12...worked like a charm. :) I figure $8 for half hour worth of work is enough; I mean, $16/hr for a 17 year old ain't too bad.

In northern california sportsmart : they sell strings such as prince synthetic gut for $19.99 and to string it cost $0.01 so about $20 at the store.

My friends do $15 w/o strings and $10 if you supply your own string.

Well, the majority of the responders charge only their costs for the strings they use or only $1.00 or so more. I seem to be in the minority with a $2 - $4 markup. My reason for the markup is to defray some of the costs/risks of the $450 inventory I carry.

I didn't originally qualify this question and I should have, this question was not directed at anyone that did stringing as a business. I only noticed my omission after seeing who was responding. Anyway, thanks to those that answered.

$15 labor plus the cost of the string. $5.75 for Prince syn w/duraflex, $11 for Reaction, $16 for NXT.

I guarantee 24 hour turnaround and I'm here 6 days a week. I also charge a $5 premium to be done in 4 hrs if there are other frames ahead of you, $10 premium for 1 hour and $15 if you watch. The reason for the $15 charge is due to the fact that it is inevitable that the person that is in such a hurry will start questioning me about shoes or racquets or balls etc. I always end up asking the player if he/she wants to know about nCodes or wants the racquet done.

String only

My calculation for PSGD is $3.75 + $.27 (tax) + $2.00 for shipping/inventory = $6.00. For a more expensive string like Unique Tourna Big Hitter it's $9.99 + $.72 (tax) + $4.00 = $15.00. If someone wanted to buy only the string from me that is what I'd charge.

My customers could save a little by buying their own string but if they buy it on-line they'd have to pay shipping and if they don't order in quantity their savings will be really miniscule. Of course they can order from outside of California and save on the tax too.

So they have a little more convenience if they use my string but pay just a little more. As I said before, I'd rather not have the inventory but my customers don't want to hassle with buying their own strings.
