What do you guys think of Ben Rothenberg?

I really can't stand him. It's ok to want the BO5 to end, but pretending there is absolutely nothing good in BO5, and that we only like it because it makes us think ourselves as alpha males...
I wish some wta player humiliates him in press conference for his needy sjw style.

I'm not sure why supporting best-of-three in Slams is wrong? Not saying I agree with it but it's a valid opinion.

And Stakhovsky's comment (that you would somehow "know" someone was gay by looking at them) is homophobic.
That is not what Stakhovsky said.

I find his twitter feed to be an excellent way of finding out about stuff that most sites won't show. Very rarely do i have the effort to watch a full press conference of players and sometimes i won't even find the video nor transcripts of them but Ben will usually pick up anything relevant and that's why i follow him and have been following him for a long time.

If you want to find out controversial things about tennis players then his twitter is one of the best ways keep up to date on it. He has got a bit personal lately but imo he's right to point out how stupid certain players are being but i still thik he's an excellent source of tennis news. He's only getting attention here because of his recent statements, not all his tweets and info is bad or s***-stirring. He's worth following imo.
This is exactly my thoughts. He’s the first one I go to when I hop on twitter to find out about anything tennis related whether it’s new coaching, drama, controversial comments, injuries etc. he’s one of the very few tennis journos who actually discuss women’s tennis and avidly promote the sport which is great. I completely understand why some say he’s a drama queen and gossip but for me that adds to the fun of it, he’s not there to be the tennis players best friend, he reports on the ****ty stuff they say like Sandgren, like Stakhovsky, like Isner. If the players who don’t like you are those 3 then you’re clearly doing a good job highlighting the homophobic and problematic ones on tour.

That is not what Stakhovsky said.
He said:

In a locker room, where half the guys walking in towels are naked, yeah, you definitely would see something different, no?”

He also said the ATP was a normal atmosphere as they had no gays in the top 100 unlike the WTA. And he wouldn’t want his daughter to play in the WTA because of all the so called lesbians.

There was more, which you have left out.

He's a complete idiot, an embarrassment to sports journalists, which is already a low bar
"Sports journalism" is a dying profession and for good reason. Sports journalists aren't actually needed - in theory they might be, but 99% of them simply serve as a mouthpiece for the organizations they cover these days. All that's needed is a few journos to ask players questions, the rest is all nonsense. I would mostly rather read analysis at TTW than most of the garbage the few tennis "journos" come up with.

He wouldn't survive TTW for sure, one step in this park and he'd be chased by the resident TTW wolves on sight

I like him. Don't always agree with him.

The podcast he does is good, and the longform writing he has done in Racquet Magazine and New York Times is some of the best tennis journalism around.

He is not a "forehands and backhands" tennis writer. If you're looking for someone to discuss the technical and strategic side if the game, he is not your man.

But writing quirky and fascinating pieces on the running of the game, the politics of the sport, and interesting tennis identities he is one of the best for sure.

He wouldn't want his daughter to play in the WTA because it's full of lesbians? Completely fine hey?
I don't see that quote on the other page, but even if he said it, I think it's totally understandable. He doesn't want his daughter ogled and leered at while in a vulnerable state in a locker room. I guess he's supposed to put political correctness ahead of his daughter's feelings, and this is called 'tolerance' or insert whatever buzzword you want.

You're too funny! Women being ogled by women. That's what men are for, no?

I don't like him, I never trusted him. For all I know, he had my friend Angel Fernandez banned from Twitter.

What about Ben Rothenberg? Any thoughts on him?

I don't know who that is, chico.

This explains so much.

I have a low opinion on modern journalism in general, sports or otherwise. He's no exception.

I don't think that Ben Rothenberg is a bad person. He is just insecure young man who allows to get stomped by his female colleagues everytime he expresses his own opinion. So he became a cheerleader for everything which is popular at that moment. I listened a dozen of his podcasts from the beginning but I stoped, because he needs to grow a pair.

I agree with the member of the forum, AM75 that Jon Wertheim is the worst. Especially when he needs to interview Djokovic after a mayor win. You can see his hatred towards Novak through his fake smile.

He is not on th permanent payroll of the NYT last time I looked, so presumably they buy Rothenberg's material due precisely because of the social media presence that he has built.
