What do you think about Juniors playing on Adult teams ?

I think the rule is that a junior who turns 18 this year can play on a USTA team. I think it is a bit of loophole because a Nationally ranked junior can play on a 4.5 team according to the guidelines. We have one team in our league that has three high school players on their roster. Two of them are good 4.5 players, but one of them is a 5.5 player will be playing D1 somewhere next year, but has not committed to a team. Edit, his sectional ranking is 20. Just wondering what you all think, I don't think there is anything that addresses this.

A domestic or foreign junior ranked in the top 150 nationally or top 20 in a section cannot self rate lower than 5.5 without lying on the self rate.

If you can prove his ranking then you can have him dqed from 4.5.

Most of the time players like that self rate 5.5, then appeal down to 5.0 and play on a 5.0 team.

TennisLink addresses this with the three strike rule. Once he whips up on three computer rated players he'll be done and a 5.0.

I think it is neat that some of our juniors are getting to play with their dad before they head to college. It is a challenge to self rate them bc their games are so different

nuttin wrong with it. if the kids too good he'll get bumped. some just want practice before going off to college.

Forget what the USTA and TennisLink says. FACTUALLY, nobody gets 3-strikes DQ'd from self-rating at "4.5" I don't care if you're a nationally-ranked 18 year old junior. A lot of us "computer-rated 4.5" players were former ranked juniors and played in college, etc. This kid might beat us (maybe straight-sets too)....but I've never seen anyone ever get DQ'd with an initial self-rate designation at 4.5. (The reason? = no one knows, it's a big mystery).

Plus, the real rockstar juniors won't stay around for stupid USTA leagues long-term...they're Division-1 college-bound. But that's beside the point.
