What do you think it takes for the WTA to be in same respect level as ATP

People were as equally interested in Chrissie and Martina then they were in Borg and McEnroe.
Were they???

Only time I think it was equal was early 90s with Courier/Edberg and Graff/Seles.

The women need to play Bo5 at Slams. It's a complete farce they get paid the same for not only less work but every event I've been to less butts in the seats. ATP is subsidising WTA at Slams and joint events like Cinci.

Bo5 on wta would not make events more enjoyable but just add time, something most of us don't have to invest. I enjoy wta at bo 3. As far as equal pay I really don't give a f. I suppose I might if I was a top junior and thought I was being robbed. But then I would be a selfish immature fool.

The WTA already has the same respect level as the ATP.

Any disrespect is in the minds of chauvinists and that's not going away anytime soon.

Late 90s before Fed’s emergence there were some good WTA rivalries - Hingis, Davenport, Williams Sisters, Capriati. But that’s extremely rare - the women aren’t consistent enough, don’t play enough to develop those rivalries.

And then there’s style of play. Today we had Delpo - Isner and Thiem and Nadal. Overall the men just have more guile.

How many women can even hit an overhead out of the air?

So to answer the OP: never.

I liked women's tennis in the 90s.

How do you quantify it?

Read the articles. The ratings were HIGHER as in more people watched the women's matches than men. I quantify it by numbers, when one number is higher than another number it is more. It's a scary concept I know but 5 is higher than 3, 6 is higher than 2. I know this new math is hard but I have faith in you.

And yes, these were individual matches and men overall have higher ratings but I was pointing out that when they're great matches with power players PEOPLE want to see the women play as much (and sometimes even more) than the men.

Just because many of the males on here do nothing but make fun of the WTA, that doesn't define the world.

Your condescending post is neither helpful to the conversation, nor is it showing that women are equally respected.

If you rephrase it to be civil and constructive it would further the discussion.

Don't even. You didn't even look at what I posted and immediately came back with a lame question "how do you quantify it". There was no respect on your part, your attempt was to ask a stupid question and hope that I either didn't respond or fumbled an answer because it was so ridiculous I was taken aback. Then when I handed you your arse you go all snowflake and whine about respect. My first post was perfect for the conversation and spot on. It gave actual facts and real numbers to back up my comments. Had you read any of the articles, or even scanned them and even made the comment "these are individual games... " I would have responded with the second part of my second comment to you. When you show respect, when your behavior earns respect, I will treat you with respect. Until then, the fact that I even acknowledge you is better than you deserve.

Did you see that my reply was quoting @Bartelby ?

That means that my question was directed at him.

I obviously didn't read your post since we were typing at the same time because I wasn't talking to you.

No I didn't see you quoting Bartleby because you didn't use quotes, just the comment.

It's there without quotes. I'm not sure what you want me to see.

Also.. this is lame. If it was a misunderstanding you should have pointed that out instead of making the comment that you did. I am done with this.

Common position of narrow-minded and weak people, if anything is not suit your own goal you call it chauvinism, sexcism, racism, fascism, nationalism, communism, capitalism and other -isms.

Respect has never been defined in terms of ticket sales, so if you think otherwise it is due to prejudice or stupidity. Take your pick?

I usually don't mind watching WTA as long as you don't expect it to be even 1/100 as great as the men's game. I honestly enjoyed WTA more than the ATP in the mid 90's-early 2000's tbh.

This is a stereotypical chauvinistic response, see above, as men's matches are full of grunting and shouting.

Men's matches are also Bo3 in both the ATP and WTA, so there is no difference there whatsoever.

no way until they will do Bo5 and stop screaming and shouting

It never happened to me to switch the match while watching an ATP match, while it happened most of the times when I was watching women that scream/haul etc play.

Either the quality of the hitting in the men's matches was so much better that it offset the grunting, or women do indeed take it to a whole other level.

No dancing around with words will change that.

You are talking about your own subjective perception as a man, so that's the limit of your view ... and there are no words to dance around there.

Come on guys, lots of WTA matches generate the kind of crowd excitement that the current Nadal/Thiem match has.
Right? Right?
Yes actually they do but since you couldn't be bothered to watch you wouldn't know.

TOPIC:

What do you think it takes for the WTA to be in same respect level as ATP

1. There is no mention here of slams, so equal work is already in place

2. 'Respect' is a moral term so we need to specify what we really mean

I think your personal dislike of Murray colors your estimation of his ability.
I will admit this is a distinct possibility. I also cannot stand the way Nadal acts on the court. But if I had to choose one player to play ONE POINT for my life ... I'd choose Nadal.

He has exemplary footwork ...
No.

... fantastic hands ...
Wow. Simply factually incorrect.

His strokes are smooth as glass and his upper body is always perfectly level when he moves.
His BH is excellent. His FH is ... fine. He does have a nice "quiet" upper body.

It is his mind and heart which held him back ...
Now you seem to be agreeing with what I first posted.

I'm sticking with Murray has only above average ability. His drive is what got him to the top of the game.
