I have not been following the ATP Cup much but this one caught my attention while going through my Instagram. Can those who watched match explain what the hell really happened?

I think it’s perfectly okay to be p**sed about something like that, but that’s just me. Even Djokovic gets annoyed when the crowd is rooting against him instead of rooting for his opponent.

As a Novak fan, I was rooting for him, but would say that the crowd was obnoxious and almost all pro-Serbia, or pro-Djokovic.
It was an entertaining spectacle, and Shapo played and fought hard in a match that could've gone either way.
I didn't really catch this exchange as it happened, as I missed the beginning of the match.

Fair point ! I was mostly referencing the cheering and jeering from the crowds between and during points. Do you find that distracting ? Most players seem to get into it vs getting upset . It always amazes me . My reference point is limited only to D1, feel free to educate me as you are clearly closest to the action

It’s D3 so it’s not as if we’re screaming our heads off or anything, but cheering and jeering does happen as does players embracing it.

I just embrace it. I get into it. I find there’s no other way to succeed. Of course it does bother me, but i just transform that irritation into yelling a lot if I win a point, as if I’m saying “right back at ya buddy”. You can’t really let yourself be upset by it, especially the way certain teams in our conference carry themselves.

I mean you should just accept it and do your thing, just like Fed did in USO 05 final or on one of the other rare ocassions in his career where he had the crowd against him.

of course it must be horrible if the crowd tries to disrupt your rhythm, whistle during your serve motion etc. But they’re not gonna change, bad crowds were always there and will always be there IMO. in the end it’s the crowd’s own embarrassment.

When Fed played Andre in both the 2004 and 2005 USO's, the crowd wasn't jeering him or booing his DF's, he was already very popular in NY. The crowd was pro-Agassi and most were rooting for him, but in no way were they disrespectful of Fed. I have both matches and sometimes re-watch them. The crowd was nothing like they were against Djokovic in the 2015 USO final, that was brutal.

To be honest, umpires should let biased crowds be biased, as long as they're not disruptive during points. It's part of the game. Djokovic and Nadal have to deal with it every time they play Federer (outside of their home countries), and others have to deal with it when they play Fed or Djoker. Staying focused despite the crowd is part of the sport. Lendl, Sampras, and Nadal were masters at silencing hostile crowds, and Djokovic has learned to do the same after all the Fedr-biased crowds he's dealt with.

And in the 11 and 12 USO semi finals, two of my all time favorite Novak wins. It seems that a few times during this ATP Cup, Novak asked his fans to keep quiet. It is unusual and for me enjoyable to see Novak as the crowd favorite, for a change. Those pro Novak Serbian fans were all most all Australian citizens. It seems there is a large former Serbian population in Australia, which surprised me.
