What frame is flexy/stable/good SW/lowish power/& hits heavy ball/huge serve?!

Hey Ross,

Good luck with the M Comp. I've got one that I've noodled around with and after stringing it twice, I still don't have it right. Used a rather soft gen. purpose syn. gut, first at around 60 lbs, then down at maybe 54 lbs, but it's still too stiff feeling for me - the strings, not the racquet. Actually my M Comp performs like a flexible racquet, but the feel is more along the lines of a stiffer frame. Compared with some other gear, this racquet seems to need a nice, loose setup to play well. If I try it again, I might string it down at around 47 lbs.

Actually got the old 6.1 Classics out for some doubles this past week and also used one for a workout with one of my kids. Yep, the magic is still there! Insane bite on the ball and that rock-solid feel. Maybe "kevlar" is just some sort of chinese or russian slang for granite! Maybe my tennis dna has been infected by these things. Oh well - hope you're enjoying the process.

ryushen,

I really agree with a lot about what you're saying on the N95... a great frame that I generally like a lot, play well with, etc, but 1. the feel isn't soft enough for me I don't think, and 2. it feels a bit less b-line orientated than I'd prefer (not sure about modding up this frame)... those 2 apart, I think it still has to be in the running for me... I actually played with it yesterday alongside the Reb later, and re maneuverability and dexterity, it beat the Reb hands down, ditto topspin... whether that's enough though remains to be seen (the Reb has other qualities like heft and body, suitability to 2hbh, big serve, that imo slightly exceeds the N95)... to be continued!

fuzz,

Just to say I'm not actually checking the MComp but was merely commenting on it as someone mentioned it... it isn't that I don't like the sound of it (I do actually, though I'm weary of serving weak with it, as I think I said earlier), it's just that with the string jobs and new frames I've invested in, I can't afford it!!!

Everyone,

The final frames I'll therefore be testing this late Nov/Dec period are: the RD7, the Rad Tour Twin Tube, the Reb 95, the YT Rad Pro and the N95. Come the New Year, please God, I'll be settled on 1 and only 1!...

thanks to shangri la for putting the becker delta core legend on my radar, i just bought one and it compares very favorably with my yt rad and lm rad tour. hard to find info on it as there's not many people playing it but it's well worth a try if you like those specs.
how goes your quest Ross?

Fed, everyone,

Lots of delays re string jobs and frames arriving... grrrrr! ...

YT Rad Pro due today/tomorrow...

Rad Tour Twin Tube (standard size) and Reb 95 due for new string jobs this week (Weiscannon and Kirchbaum Proline 2 respectively, with both @ 50 ibs)... it must be said that having started playing with the Reb again recently whilst awaiting string jobs/new frames etc, with lead tape @ 12, I have really been liking and enjoying the Reb very much all over again.

Next pay day I should be purchasing that old RD7 and an MG Rad MP (my idea of doing a major custom. job still appeals)...

And... with some prompting from your good self, cross court and Pro_Tour_630, the Delta Core Legend is also starting to attract my attention somewhat.

I'll obviously be checking/testing these rods right into the New Year, but will post up how things develop.

There's no magical racket that has it all for my game. My best stroke is the forehand, and it's because I am constantly adjusting my stroke to the frame/strings/tension/weight/etc. My serve/backhand/volleys all go back to my old habits, so I am very sensitive in those areas when it comes to "upgrading" my equipment. IMO, if you're ready to change your equipment, be ready to change your game/strokes to accommodate the equipment. THERE'S NO WAY AROUND THIS. <end of rant>

Ross,

I have concluded that you are a blithering dunderhead who has completely lost his mind. I don't know how you could not be happy with the Rebel. I just keep getting happier and happier with it. It does everything so well. Serves are outstanding, groundies boom, it hits volleys like magic. And all with such ease of use.

I don't get it man!!!

In all seriousness now, how goes your search ?

AlpineCadet ^^^,

Although there has been a few issues (first of all arm soreness - now thankfully no longer a prob, and secondly the larger head-size), I'm committed to the YT Rad Pro and looking forward to the new string-job (arrives back in a few days.) This frame is just a b-line bully and has the kind of effortless power I love, plus - unlike the Reb - it hits with huge topspin. As I've said before, it reminds me a bit of a Babolat - accept it also actually has good control, decent touch, good heft and feel! What I need to do now though, is demonstrate the frame really suits me (ie, get better at a more full on topspin b-line orientated game), and get truly comfortable with that 100" head size.

Re this thread and my testing and checking out frames with these specs, all I can say is it was not only highly educational, it was great fun.

I feel like I should get a prize or something for being one of those to suggest the Radical Pro and potentially cure a racquetaholic. So Ross, feel free to send me any of your other racquets as payment :)

Agreed - constant change of equipment can ruin your game and may require changes in style of play.

Ross, a buddy of mine let me hit with his PST-gt for a bit this am. I was curious and figured...why not.

It's not totally different from the pst that you and I knew and loved(most of the time) but it felt like it swung lighter and was more solid throughout. It was stiffer without being stiff. I was actually surprised at how light it felt but it was 347g strung up-I think using the RP on a daily basis skews my view.

Similar to the Rebel in that its really nice on the 2hbh and fh's were solid as well. I had to make a concerted effort to impart brush up as the spin doesn't come as naturally as it does with the RP. Flat putaways were nice and it seemed to come through the strike zone faster than the older pst. I enjoyed the hit but had no interest in changing.

One final point, it felt much meatier than the YT MP Prestige. More substantial and much easier to produce a heavy ball.

Hi Ross...what was your final take on the YT Radical Pro? How would you compare the comfort and feel to the Rebel 95?

I own 3 rebels. It's a soft frame in itself. It has cured my wrist and my shoulder problems. I use full bhbr, but a hybrid feels just as good with extra comfort.

I highly recommend multis and synth guts if you more pop.

I agree its a tad harder to hit as heavy with the rebel, but you can really pound flat balls in with the right swing. I'm currently about to start a Rebel Racket Tuning Experiment. I've been searching for more pop on my serve, but I found a pretty decent amount by tweaking my form. I'm more about placement and spin anyways.

It might help my game for the better.

EDIT: I've played the YT radical instead. +1 to ross. It adds a bit to my game, but I just don't has the money to switch. Gotta stick to my guns haha. I've been looking for a open pattern rebel. I saw 3 dunlop 4d 200 tours for 100$ but someone bought it. lol.

Sans, have you considered a pog mid

Sans, have you considered a pog mid

I have played the OS, but I haven't tried the mid. If I could get my hands on some, but I'm slowly becomnig a racketholic... My stash went from 2 to 7 in like 3 months lol...

But for sure I'd love to get my hands on a few. Also REALLY wanted to try the prince Diablo Tours. 93 sounds a bit strict for me though.
