nadal defeated federer in epic 5 set final match in wim 2008, and after that he won only one wimbledon title

my question is why he didnt more wimbledon crowns, since he defeated king of grass in one of the most memorable match ever played which is tied with 1980 wimbledon final between borg and mcenroe

Well, he didn't play in 2009 because of injury, played in 2010 and won again, reached the final again in 2011 for the last time but lost out to a Djokovic who was busy peaking almost everywhere that year. From 2012 onwards, he suffered a succession of shock early exits so his grass game had obviously declined ahead of the rest of his game 2 years later.

ok thanks for the explanation

Well his level kept improving up to 2008. 06 was very good already, 07 even better and 08 amazing. As @metsman put it perfectly (imo), his 08 qf performance against Murray is the best Wimbledon performance by someone not named Federer in this century. 09 he overplayed as usual, but because he got deep almost everywhere, his knees were done by RG, resulting in failure at RG and WIM. His 08 or 10 level would arguably have secured the crown in 09. 10 was a very good second week with his best performance of the season once again coming against Murray in the semis. 11 was again really good with outstanding matches against Del Potro and Murray, but probably his worst GS final(bar AO 14 which ended injury) ever. From then on I think his body couldn't keep up the huge amount of matches from IW-RG resulting in early losses and resulting in loss of confidence at WIM. 12 and 13 he was truly injured, 14 was a shocker for him and well 15 was horrible.

To summarize, he peaked grass court wise in 08, still played good Wimbledons in 10 and 11 but each a little worse than the last. From then on his body couldn't cope to keep going after IW-RG at Wimbledon which resulted in early losses in 12 and 13, which led to his confidence level dropping in 14 and 15.

I think he was very unlucky to win only twice there. The main reason is that when he was a factor on grass in 2006-2011 he had peak Federer on his way, got injured once and then faced peak Djokovic in 2011. I still consider him a greater grass court player than both Djokovic and Murray. 2007/2008 Nadal would be good enough to win any Wimbledon edition in the last 7-8 years.

He was always vulnerable in the first week of grass. Iirc, he was taken to five sets in the first week in every one of his 5 visits to the final except 1. From 2012 onwards, his ability to escape those close calls suffered and in both 2012 and 2014 he simply got served.

To bad he was injured in 2009, because other than his personal puppy Federer there were no other real threats for him at Wimbledon that year...

Yep, people tend to forget all of those struggles he suffered in early rounds, against folks like Kendrick, Petschner, Haase, and Söderling, the latter being the only decent player among them.
It was merely a matter of time that the results of those early struggles would become reversed.

Yeah - what's strange is that he pulled through each and every one of them back then and now he loses all of them. Talk about losing your edge and your aura.
