What happened to Nole?

I think that after the Serbia Davis Cup win and beating Fed on a Hard Court he just has the swagger and confidence that he CAN and HAS beaten anyone whenever and wherever. He is playing incredible tennis. It will be interesting to see what happens when clay court season comes around.

Another thing is his ability to overcome bad points. Early in his career up until about 8 months ago, whenever he would have a bad game, it would stick with him and eat him alive for the rest of the set. Today he lost the first set and was extremely frustrated but was able to lay it aside in the 2nd set and from then on out he was dictating the match.

he is more physically stronger now that was a big problem only 6 months ago, and his serve is back on track.

1.he is physically stronger and trained better. he used to be not fit enough

2.he plays more aggressive, he used to be too passive from the baseline

3.he is mentally more stable. I still think he is mentally not at nadals level and needs to be less emotional and be less bothered by slumps, but he got better at this.

The serve. In the US Open Final against Rafa he didn't have it and found it to difficulty to hold.

Now it's back.

I also wonder how much of an effect beating Federer at the US Open has had on him, he said it himself that when he was down match points he basically thought "To hell with this!" and let rip. It worked 8)

I'm thinking Federer unleashed a beast that night.

Sorry to hijack, but what does "10 chars" mean, pardon my ignorance.

I think it's just to eat up the 10 character limit we have on posts. Sometimes a reply to a funny post could simply be , but that only uses up 5 characters, so 10chars is just a way of getting over that limit.

think it means that his character just earned some points!

Nehh, as someone already said, you need at least 10 characters in each post, hence the +1 +10 and so on

Ill tell you all what happened to Djokovic. FLEXIBILITY!!!! his flexibility is extreme right now. he can stretch and bend in extreme ways, he can hit some amazing angles and can really turn on the forehand. its truly incredible that novak is that athletic.

He looks fitter and more focused, which enables him to show more positive body language on court. He's winning big tournaments and thus getting more confidence.

He was in a similar place at this stage in 2008, though, so don't get too carried away yet. The next task for Djokovic is to take it to Nadal on clay, and if he fails, to not let it get him down.

It's not that he's stronger, more physically fit, overcoming bad points like all these other posters have said.

It's a few key things. His serve is completely revamped. He's serving harder and before he used to average more double faults than aces, he's since corrected that. And now he's been playing much better defense, when he's running side to side, you never feel he's out of the point or he's in trouble. He gets the ball in play with good pace and resets himself to the center of the court very well. So his movement is much improved.

Last thing, he's playing with more spin and strategically is going for his shots when he feels like he's in a good position to do so. Which is a form of smart aggression. But the spin really has eliminated a lot of his unforced errors that he was accruing last season.

Exactly. This isnt a surprise per se. Perera Nadal losing isnt a surprise either. Perera hasnt played particulary well at Indian Wells this yr and was lucky to get a good draw this year. Last year he lost to Ljubicic!

All this does is for an interesting rest of 2011. I am sure Roger and Perera will have a few options to counter Djoker. Then there is always this unpredictable injuries. Djokovic has had issue in the past--hopefully he has overcome them.

My opinion is that everyone else (in tennis, that means Nadal and Federer) are sucking it hard right now. That's why Djokovic can win. He's been No 3 in the world for 3-4 years - he is consistent.

He hasn't done anything spectacular. Today he hit 10 more errors than winners to win. Pretty lame for a final.

its real simple folks, djokovic's flexibility is allowing him to open up the court even more. look at all the balls he throws with that inside out forehand to the corners. djokovic is one of the most flexible players to ever play this game.

He is potentially the greatest of all time. I have no doubt that if he improves his net game that he will dominate the tour like no one before. We are witnissing something magical that only a few of us are aware of.

Nadal is 24 and has 9 slam titles
Djokovic turns 24 in 2 months and has 2 slam titles.

Nadal will still be the greatest of all time.

At first Nole had fitness and 'breathing' problems.

Then he improved his fitness, but ruined his serve by changing the motion.

Now his fitness and serve are both good. Thus, success.

4. he leaves his parents at home

I think this is a true statement. His parents, and especially his Dad ruin his game. I think they were at USO and he lost, and I didn't see them at AO and he won. I noticed that when his parents are watching he is constantly swearing and looking at them, and seems mad at them a lot. His Dad is known for inasane behavior in Serbia, and who knows how insane he is as a father? I heard rumours that he was tough on Djokovic when he was a kid and all that money grabbing with Head, opening restaurants, acting in Serbia, etc was probably putting enormous pressure on Djokovic. Possibly, he is now older and realized that he can make his own decisions. This is just what I think.

I think better conditioning, increased mental toughness, and confidence are the biggest things. He doesn't always have to go for the low percentage shot because he has the stamina to play longer points and wait for his chance. He is able to move past bad points/games/sets. He knows he can beat anybody so he is playing like it.

First he discontinued all the tinkering with his service motion that Martin had started. After reverting back to his original motion it just felt better, more natural, he became at peace with his own service game again, finally. That was huge. Of course he won Davis Cup. He cherishes that win for mother Serbia far more than his first slam victory. It was a hug emotional moment in his life. I think it was even bigger for his confidence than regaining his serve.
Little know fact: he has been quietly grooming himself to assume "Roger's" mantle as THE polished ambassador of tennis to the world, from studying other languages so he can speak them better and reach more peoples, to working with sports psychologists to get over whatever it was that was preventing him from closing out the big matches so he could become a multiple-slam champion, to little things like just improving his movement/fitness tenfold. It's all there for anyone to see. Djokovic has been putting in the work and it's really paying off for him right about now.

Where are you getting this from?

Where are you getting this from?

Interview abstracts mostly. Then by connecting the dots, a picture emerges of one who sees himself as larger than the game but who is ardently interested in reigning over it for a period and so, he has been making what I consider many if not "all the right moves" in his effort to achieve this. He been tracking consciously towards this outcome for a couple of years now.

In a recent interview he said he has matured and has organized his tennis life and his personal life so that each has it's own place and time. And yes as someone said here, leaving his parents at home and hopefully out of his tennis would help,

He has matured and is now a stronger, more consistent and more intelligent player than the rest of the field. Only an injury can stop him from total domination.

I'd hate to see domination from such a workmanlike player.
He will get to #1 though, but I don't like his style of play.

If it stays this way then yes, but I doubt our new King will allow that.
The King will march forward and win every slam. He already showed us the best tennis performance ever. The only thing left for him to do is win more slams than Federer wich will be very easy if he keeps his feet off the ground.

Is that really just his new attitude? The guy is on fire this year! No new coaches, no new girlfriend...just new fire. Wow:shock:

The guy has had it since he first defeated Federer and captured his first major title. The rest was just mental, he could have beat Nadal and Federer at any time if he got his head strait.
