So what has happened? I do not live in any of these countries but it used to be relevant. Now we barely have anyone on the mens or ladies side that do anything. Why is this?

What has happened to South American Tennis?

Can you give us comparisons between now and when it was “relevant”. Are you looking at top 100 players? Slam winners? What’s the criteria for comparison?

I don't think it's that bad? It's the same as it's been for a long time.

Men's side has a number of top 40 guys:
Tabilo from Chile - #23
Baez from Argentina - #28
Cerundolo from Argentina - #31
Jarry from Chile - #34
Etcheverry from Argentina - #39

Women's side has:
Haddad Maia from Brazil - #16
Osorio from Colombia - #61

The women haven't usually produced many from South America compared to the men.

Come on. With maybe, Haddad no one is talking abut any of them being a contender for anything.

Same could be said for Australia. Sure our population isn't anywhere near South America but we were a powerhouse of the sport and now other than Barty and Stosur haven't had anything since Hewitt in 2002.

Can see your point to a point. But just throwing out Barty who won slams just a few years ago and discounting where your players are in terms of rankings compared to all of South America is beating yourself up a little.

All I am saying is what happened?

I think South America and North America should be counted as one continent. I mean, Tabillo is Chilean but he was born in Toronto and lived there until he was 18 when he decided to travel to Chile and then settled permanently in Chile when he was 19.
