What happens if....Medvedev wins?

A Medvedev win seems totally out of the question, at least here on TTW anyway. It seems like people are already crowning the champion and his achievements.
But what happens if Medvedev does win?
Do we just keep doing the Big 3 debate?
Do we praise the Next Gen for finally delivering the goods? (And maybe also criticise them a little for not doing it sooner, of course).
Do we lament we never got to see the CYGS happen?
Or all 3?
And maybe others?

It'll be so strange that nobody will post for three days.

It's not out of the question.

Djokovic is favored to win, but he isn't a lock. We have no idea how he will deal with the occasion.
Both guys have big pressure. Djoko for CYGS and 21st slam is big. It is also massive for meddy because it’s his 3rd slam final and he needs to get over the hurdle of winning one. As the more slam final losses you have the harder it gets mentally. That being said I think both will handle the occasion well and we will get a quality match.

I wanted Novak to win his semifinal specifically so that Medvedev would have to go through him. I want it to happen. I have my doubts tbh, but I'm hoping the Mad Lad can pull off a miracle.

All 3, in my opinion

This forum will become unbearable with endless weakera debate and medvedev bashing. Good time to leave the forum and focus on work actually!

At the moment even if Novak loses tomorrow he has done enough in most neutrals eyes to be considered best of big 3. Now that could still change over next year or two if Rafa can grab another slam or two., but i cannot see Roger getting another.

However i also think that if Rafa doesn't pick up one of next 2 slams he may not get another either.

People are down on Meddy's chances because they were burned by the 2021 AO Final, where people were optimistic for a thriller before Meddy went on to get DESTROYED in straight sets.

That AO was really bad. Everything leading up to that AO pointed to a hardcore, attritional battle, though. It didn't pan out, but I see no reason why the AO is the defacto new "trend" in their matchups.

Of course, Med can win.
I'll never speak for any other fan or poster. I don't think that Novak has to win this to be considered the greatest of the GOATs, but it will be huge, just the same, and put more distance between Rafa/Roger.

This will happen even if Medvedev doesn't win.
Do we praise the Next Gen for finally delivering the goods? Hell no! Only praise Medvedev (followed by: "About **** time!")
Do we lament we never got to see the CYGS happen? Yes. Oh darn. Okay, we're over it!

Djokovoic plays off the baseline. Medvedev plays off the court surrounds. It's better for tennis if Djokovic wins from a style of play viewpoint.

If Novak wins it’s a weak era if medvedev wins it’d be how Novak screwed up a good chance and hence can never be goat

I’m positive Novak will play well today and if medvedev still comes on top, he deserves all the praise for ending a historic event and eventually the next gen take over. Medvedev has been the second best player on HC with Novak so it’s not even a big upset.

Med is a top player. The game could go either way. I still think it’s 50-50. People are underestimating med here. Many Djokovic haters deep inside want him to win and also know he is better player. If he wins they will be jubilant. If he folds, blame as usual on weak competition to undermine CYGS achievement

Med is going to win slams regardless you can see him being a winner on the next 5-7 years. He has the game.
If he indeed has the game, then he should easily win tomorrow.. He's 9 years younger than a player who is physically ancient by historical tennis standards. 90% of all ATG's were retired by 34. Med is 25, at his physical peak and should demolish Novak on age differential alone.

But he'll win about 10 games in the final, so no, he doesn't have the game. At least not right now.

The Djokovic haters don't care about this. They only pay lip service to the "style of play" argument and whinge about how "boring" Novak is. But they won't hesitate for a second to root for an even more defensive grinder if they play Djokovic

Not true, I’m a djokovic hater and I’ll root for him over Giles Simon any day.

I really like Medvedev, and if it weren't Djokovic in the final, I would be rooting for him

But if Novak loses I'll probably cut down my activity here for a while. I expect unprecedented amounts of trolling from the usual crowds if the thinkable happens

I give Medvedev 40% chance to win. Without the 5 setter with Zverev, I would have given him 20%, but I think Djokovic must be just that little bit more tired. As far as I’m concerned, I will be trolling a lot. Be warned.

No free points for medv on serve after the 1st set once djko has his ROS rhythm dialled in.

And at the same time medv wont really attack djko's serve, just return it from deep to start the point neutral, which works against everyone else but is exactly what djko is happy working with.

Medv might win the 1st set, but its in all probability gonna be a comfortble straight sets to djko

Even GOAT can't win everything. There's no shame in losing USO final to Med. Novak will remain GOAT even if he loses that match.

So he is gonna win more games than he won at AO. If it's not improvement then what is it?!

Djokovic‘s best tournament is coming in January. He‘s getting older, but I would still expect at least one more AO no matter what happens tomorrow. The grand slam is a real thing, but no one calls Laver the GOAT. Weeks at No. 1 and overall number of slams will still be the Djokers.

Truth is that much as I love Meddy, I don’t think he will win it and not because he can’t beat Novak. I don’t think he can hang with him for five sets when Djokovic is seeking history. Novak is mentally strong and he wants this bad. The CYGS is incoming. That said, I would be very happy to see Daniil lift that trophy and I’m holding out a little bit of hope; maybe 20% chance.

He goes down in history as one of the greatest ever. It is one thing to win a slam. But to win in that situation denying CYGS will be classed as one of the most difficult tasks ever.

At the very least, he'll be the answer to a trivia question.
