What happens to Jack Sock next year?

He currently has 305 points and is ranked 155 in the Race to London (so this is his Year to Date ranking). I've never seen anyone fall from top 8 one year to outside the top 100 the following year.

What happens to him next year? Does he have to go through qualies? Or are there some sort of exemptions in place I don't know about?

He wouldn't get exemptions, apart from Wildcards.

He could yet defend his Paris title to maintain his ranking.

Failing that he could challenge Tomic for the Rafa Nadal open next year.

The only thing I can think of is, when Tomic dropped last year, he received direct entry into 500 level events because he was inside the top 30 the year before. Sock is currently ranked 17.

So I'm wondering if that rule still applies? Is it good for one calendar year (so he'll get into pretty much all the 500 level events next year.....and if he does well, it could boost his ranking high enough to avoid qualies?)?

I'd imagine he'll probably get directly into the 128 draw slams too some way or another.

So that really just leaves the Masters 1000 events (and I can see him getting into IW and Miami directly because of the larger draws).

Tomic hasn't gotten direct entry into any tournaments this year, far as i remember. His ranking was well outside the top 100 a the start of the year. last year he got into tournaments as his ranking plummeted because he started the year ranked high enough.

Socks drop is similar to Tomics; he was only ranked top 10 last year by beating a weak field in Paris.

He's not going to end the year in the top 30, so he won't get the free entry into 500s, I think.

Either he has to win some matches at the end of this year to stay in the top 100, or he has to rely on wildcards/qualies next year, or be a doubles specialist.
