This equal work-equal pay nonsense is ridiculous. Besides the fact that who even cares since it's not your money and none of the guys are hurting because of it, women DO in fact have to make a living too. Their purses are smaller everywhere but the slams, and last time I checked, unless you're a super elite name, you're not getting loaded with sponsorships to make up the difference. Read that Tipsy article about low pay? Yeah, then consider that women are getting less still and it makes the outlook a bit more bleak.
Let's look at a super elite, Martina Navratilova with 21.6M to her name. Even normalized, the numbers match up. She has 59GS titles total, 167 titles overall, ended with a career record of 1442-219, and to top it off, did all of this while winning GS titles in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Now, let's look at Andy Roddick who has 20.2M to his name. He has 1GS title, only played in the 2000s + 2 years, has 30 titles overall and a career record of 571-184. Now tell me, if you are a super athlete like Billie Jean, either Martina, Seles, Graf, the Williams or Davenport, how would you feel if a relative "great" was being payed huge sums of money simply for being a man while you're actually out there doing more work overall, still drawing crowds and are getting paid less? The fact that this is a bad era changes nothing. The most viewership at Wimbledon to date was a Williams sisters final, not a Fed/Nadal matchup. So no, just because this era is terrible doesn't mean that there won't be future greats who wouldn't benefit from the work of their predecessors to get equal pay.
