What is “advanced”

But I didn’t compare my game to his. Just one thing on the FH that isn’t actually good/desirable. You are making mountains out of molehills. And noted that you decided not to post video of yourself after demanding it of someone else (again, over innocuous comments). Good day mate

How about comparing any aspect of your game to a #1 player. The one comparison you made was incorrect. It wasn’t a decision about video. I don’t have any video of me playing tennis. Coaches used video to train me and tweak certain things but never crosses my mind that I need to video myself playing tennis. Mate

A good reason would be, if you’re going to be the Ego Police and demand video, you should have some ready as well.

And whose rule is that? You were making claims about your strokes. I made no claim about any aspect of my game. One of us is claiming to have some stroke similarities to Thiem. That might be the ego in question here.

just remembered another couple funny scenarios...

there was a coach that organized a league... and called it a "5.0 league/clinic"... but the only folks in there were 4.5's in the area (we all knew each other)...
the only 5.0+ was the pro (former tour player)...

another coach asked to an "invite-only" clinic, only to find out that at least one guy in there didn't even know he had to switch grips for the backhand...

moral of the story is that pros trying to sell slots in their clinic/league/drill/etc... will call it whatever, to attract as many $'s as they can

Never seen any coaches around here do that in 25yrs of teaching. The open drill groups the highest level is labeled 3.5+ or 4.0+.
Have coached 4.0, 4.5 teams going to state or regionals and that’s productive. Not enough 5.0 players here to even create a group or any that would even show up. They can train on their own.

Newsflash: the income made in teaching is the beginners and 3.0-3.5 players. If your income is based on 4.5+ you will be going into another profession. If pros try to offer a 5.0 group they are just offering a service to try and get the 4.5+ to play.

I don’t even like Thiem and the similarity I mentioned isn’t even a good thing. You’re deflating a brag that wasn’t a brag.

Advanced is the stage where you have completed your training and are ready to use the technical tools to fight in a tennis game. Focus is no longer on solely on technique but mostly on opponents and tactics.

if i had been in your area, i'd have saved myself some money :P
imo the best groups are ones that are carefully curated by a pro so that everyone is approximately the same level (vs. bs'ing about their ntrp or using vague terms like "adv")

true.
(exception i've seen is when the pro who is a 5.5+ is inviting his buddies... but this is rare)

yep

Just hit with a 5.0 friend of mine. You should have seen it. Was hitting my ground strokes just like Federer. One handed backhand preparing with the shoulders first, racquet almost straight up on the backswing with the wrist arched up elbow bent slightly, left hand on the throat of the racquet until starting the swing forward. Lunge forward into the court. Relaxed wrist started the swing the racquet dropping below the ball brushing up the back of the ball. Arm straight at the point of contact, left hand reaching toward the back fence as I follow through, head completely still, eyes left at the point of contact, relaxed follow through. Slice identical as well working the down the line slice, deep flatter one cross court and the sharp angle slice cross court. Looked exactly like Federer.
Forehand identical as well will talk about it tomorrow. It was epic.

Before I went to hit got my RF97’s out and strung them. Wilson natural gut 1.30 on the mains and Luxilon Alu Rough 1.25 on the crosses. 27k on the mains down 1.5k on the crosses pre-stretch. Leather power pads on the mains. Strung 3 at 27k on the mains and 3 at 26k.
Lead tape at 12oclock under the bumper guard.
4 3/8 grip with Wilson leather grip and Wilson Pro over grip.

Was 5.0 when I started stringing the frames and was 5.5 by the time I was finished.

At the local private tennis clubs, the coaches give ratings to the players that are typically 0.5 level higher than the actual computer ratings of those who participate in USTA leagues. So, if someone says they are a 4.0, it is common to ask if that is a club rating (meaning USTA 3.5 equivalent) or an actual USTA computer rating when you meet a new player. Those who actually play USTA leagues know there is a difference in level, but others not exposed to USTA team tennis don’t.

So, the club’s internal 4.5 tournaments get USTA 4.0 rated participants and the club 5.0 tournaments get USTA 4.5 rated players. Maybe it is a similar issue at your club?

What is advanced?, Here’s the deal, I’m the best there is plain and simple. When I wake up in the morning I p~ss excellence. Nobody can touch my stuff. If you aren’t first your last.

Forehand yesterday were Federesk as well. Crowd gathered around off the deuce side off the court. Could hear whispers of Federer all around. The first steps were so smooth and quick it was like just a whisk sound. Footwork was effortless. The early preparation with the shoulders and hands brought gasps from the crowd. Everything was on the right side of the body with the non-dominant hand helping to prepare the racquet up high on the backswing, racquet face toward the ground, non-dominant arm extended was eexecuting the lag perfectly dropping the racquet head below the ball generating more racquets head speed and spin. Head was completely still eyes focused on the ball, point of contact. Relaxed arm completely. Contact well out in front and 10-12” further in front than the average ATP player. Stepping in with the left foot on balls coming down the middle, loading on the right leg when moving to my right. Finishing point varied depending on the shot I was executing. It was biblical.

Will be sending out a slow motion tutorial on my strokes with the analysis showing some of my idiosyncrasies that are somewhat more efficient than Federer. Although he was the template I have improved on certain aspects.

Just figured in a pointless thread about what is advanced, it might be funny if someone came on here claiming how advanced they are. Sorry I’m kind of a Will Ferrell fan. Gotta have fun some times and laugh at threads like this where people are trying to be serious about something really irrelevant. Also really comical that coaches would say to their students that they resemble Federer or to hear people comparing themselves to the best players in the world.
Just a joke gotta laugh sometimes. Some people have a sense of humor.

Now back to the serious issue at hand gentlemen. Let’s sort this out.

Well, if they are set on having three evenly populated groups and you are in the top third of available players it makes sense. They can always move you down to intermediate.
One question: were you looking to get into a clinic there? You made it sound like you were just picking up your daughter? Maybe they want to make money on clinics and were buttering you up to reel you in? Just sayin.’
This. Someone did something similar to me try to sell me on joining their 4.5/5.0 on-going tournaments. He said that I can hang with them but, knowing myself (and having hit with a few 4.5s), there would be a learning curve that would not allow either my opponent or myself to have much fun.

Maybe they figured out that they needed to massage your ego to get you to spend money.

I have been told by 3 different coaches that my hitting style is smooth like Federer.

That is true, though.
Fact! I've witnessed it personally.

I found this funny at first, but then realized autism isn’t a laughing matter.

Now….post video or kindly shut the fuq up, because adding substance to this thread is clearly not on your to do list.

Making a joke about autism is less than funny. My nephew has autism. I’m not narcissistic enough to go around videoing myself playing tennis. Meet me at a centralized location, play you for $500 a set. $1000 a set if you feel confident.

What you’re doing is actually more narcissistic than simply posting a video. Taking over a thread, being nasty and belligerent, and refusing to provide any evidence of the expertise you’re claiming….now trying to make bets.

Why would I bet with someone I haven’t seen play? Post. A. Video.

Do you really think I would go video myself playing tennis just to send you a video?
Your not advanced enough nor or you confident enough.
High School All American
Collegiate All American
Open level 15yrs
Trained by the pros at Bollattieri/IMG Academy
5.0 (Won Southerns 5.0 NTRP) Not league.

Bring it! Looks like you may have to just Talk Tennis instead of Play Tennis.

OK. Can you prove any of this? Otherwise it’s just hot air.

And if it’s true, then I’m just gonna be giving you money to show up and make a bet on win/loss. The bet should really be about how many points I can take off you.

TBH, if it’s more than 8 points in one set, that would be pretty embarrassing for you.

And btw this is all happening bc you couldn’t just let some no name poster make a throwaway comment about feedback he’d received. Nice job

Atlanta?
Play you $1000 a set to cover the cost of travel and time off from work. This is fun to me finding a way to compete on a tennis court. If you are searching for the definition of Advanced you just found it.

What do you get out of challenging a 4.0 to a duel?

This is like Mike Tyson wanting to fight a middle schooler.

Right. So Mike wanting to beat up a middle schooler over a throwaway comment MADE BY SOMEONE ELSE would be a bad look for Mike.

Got a name so I can check your UTR? Gotta be at least 10+
You’re living in a world that doesn’t exist now. Come back to reality. If you are scared to play I understand. You left out “girl” in middle school. Don’t make any more jokes about Autism. The appropriate thing to do there would be apologize to that community.

Reality? I posted a video when you asked me to. You haven’t. You won’t give a name to check your UTR. You could be making all this up and I’m gonna proceed under that assumption until you prove otherwise. Something tells me you’re just gonna keep talking and keep getting meaner. Seen your type a thousand times

I’ll make whatever jokes I want, sir. If you wanted an apology, the time to ask for/get one was some time ago.

Since it’s all “hot air” you should be willing to let your tennis do the talking. $1000 a set. Atlanta?

You’re making fun of autistic people and don’t see the need to apologize? $2,000 a set.

Why would I want to do this? I should just wire you $2000 and save myself the time.

You’re not proving anything. I posted a video and am upfront about my level.

A 4.0 is nothing to you, clearly. So what incentive would I have?

You want to play me so bad, come up to DC. I couldn’t give a flying fuq if you don’t think I’m good. I’m telling you I’m not good at tennis. You’re the one bragging

Well since tennis is out you should at least apologize to the autistic community and make a donation to the foundation and research.

Donate to the Autism Society of America and realize that making fun of them is a soul sickness and shows the nature of your character or the lack there of.

Have you ever played with someone $1000 a set? Or it’s just a proposal for a 4.0 rec player, exclusive? So miserable :-D

Played open level tennis so I played for a lot more than that. We are all rec players at this point. Why are you so miserable? Go hit tennis balls and enjoy your life.

Then you should stop making fun of me ASAP
You said I was autistic after just sending some joking posts about Federer. Jokes about Autism is fairly insulting because my nephew has Autism. My wife is also a special needs teacher. Haven’t said anything about you personally. Go hit tennis balls and enjoy your life.

yeha, definitely some ntrp inflation going on... not sure if it was part of their marketing (gas light me), to sell more clinics/lessons/etc... ;P

Considering that a two third of all recreational players will not reach 4.0, it isn't too much of a stretch to consider them advanced players. Top 30%-33% is pretty good.

I hit at 3.5 and will sometimes get 4.5 to 5.0 players coming to our hitting sessions (which is hilarious by the way :-D ) just because they are having great difficulties finding someone else at their level on that particular day.

Granted they get bored very quickly even when going 1vs2 and leave, but it makes sense once you look at the stats
