What is an Obsessed Fan?

What constitutes the "Obsessed Fan?" Leaving aside obvious stalkers etc.

Do you consider yourself to be one? If not, then what would you have to do to take it that level? I have a theory that no-one considers themselves obsessed, they always think that of the person who's a little more extreme than they are.

Please keep it nice and don't nominate other posters unless you're sure they wouldn't mind

An obsessed fan loves their idol more than they love their own family. Want to go fishing, son? No, I'm too busy watching a new youtube video of my hero. They are all getting their name legally changed to Mark, bro.

I know some fans follow Roger all over the world, attending 10+ tournaments a year, spending all their savings on it. No idea if they have a life of their own, would it be considered obsessed?

I guess it would depend on whether their family was going without because of it?

If it's their own money and no-one's losing out then I suppose some people might consider it obsessed but it would be their own business.

I consider myself an obsessed fan. But obsession is my nature I guess. As far as I remember I have always been obsessed with people, sports, music, movies, mountains, history, science and whatnot. I am so deep in the hellhole of obsession that a normal life doesn't suit me.
My obsession about Roger might not show here but that's coz I am obsessed with 2 or more things at a time.
My most googled keyword by a country mile is "Roger Federer". When I am bored and don't have anything to do I day dream about him beating Nadal in a RG final.
I don't know where you draw a line between interest and obsession.
Maybe the wallpapers they keep on their phone tell you something about their obsession? I don't know.
It's a nice question you pose here. Another question (maybe the more important one) is whether this obsession is good for someone or not.

That's all beautiful. Totally inspirational. But this isn't the truth, is it?

We all know that ''Shiny ass'' is your most googled topic. (y)

probably one that constantly brings up cherry-picked stats day in day out everyday of their life to prove a point
No, that’s someone with no life and lots of invective/jealousy against Federer.

The concept of a “fan” used to be someone who worships, adores and lives and dies with their favorite player. Those who cripplingly hate the rivals of their favorite aren’t true fans. They’re just lonely and unhappy people who seem to swarm in here.

Those who go beyond even adoration (of, in this case, a player) and seem to derive some of their sense of self-esteem from his/her achievements. The obsessed fan also shows an aversion to reason that may somehow boost their idol's rival or detract from their idol's achievement/status - when this happens, he/she gets outraged as it upsets (his/her) worldview.

This is a solid definition.

Also I saw a Mercedes one time in Sarasota that had a custom-made Federer front license plate using a K-Factor ad. I think that dude qualifies.

If after months being around here, you are asking yourself this question, in this forum...

Anyone who takes comments towards their favorite player as if it was to a family member. If i say something about a player, it doesnt give you the right to insult me.

Not sure why these people take it personally, wasnt talking about them.

I thought he was a tennis star, despite "only" serving 125 mph down the middle.
He has been modest compared to what’s going on in here with so many giving false impressions. He is more interesting than what I have first understood. I haven’t experienced this before in here.

To get obsessed with one of the big 4 is insanity, no?
I also like @125downthemiddle never behaved like a fanboy.

I also didn't expect you to be who you are. You're something special...
