What is Barty going to do?

She is married and might have kids. But she could also go back to being a professional cricket player.

Well she’s not married yet she just engaged.

She has the world at her feet. She could become a pro in either golf or cricket again. Perhaps politics if she desires. She could go the family route which seems most likely.

she will play cricket or paddle tennis for 1 year and get bored and comeback to tennis where she's treated as superstar and all the people treat her like queen and 1000 people her scream every match she plays. Power of the ROAR,, is too addicting not to come back

Part of what she spoke about was the physical toll this all takes, so I can't imagine her going into another sport.

I'd guess more overpopulation of the planet is on the agenda.

How bad do you feel you didn't have her on your list of 2022 retirements yesterday?! Maybe she did it just to troll you!

Ash has amazing sporting talent. There's nothing to say that she couldn't return to tennis after a sabbatical.

She seems like a really kind and genuine person, so it would be good if she forged a career in activism/humanitarianism/politics, etc.

She will think that wtf i have done. Hundreds of players try win slams. She won 3 and then let it all go

She'll get bored of it and return to tennis.

Then go back to swimming, then basketball, then tennis again. Fishing, curling then rugby.

Then basketball again, yachting, weightlifting (quits after doping ban) then surfing (which she quits after a shark-attack: she punches out the shark and gets crucified by animal rights fanatics).

She is restless, like a child.

Probably sit around do the stocks and mooch off our tax dollars with elitist loopholes despite being richer than sin and us middle class people with real jobs foot the bill Like it’s done everywhere Unfortunately. It seems like rich people pay nothing now despite hoarding all the wealth
Oh my, not THAT fallacy again!! While a small percentage of wealthy benefit too much from some loopholes, the fact is that the top 1 percent of earners pay 39.5 percent of all income tax in the USA, while the bottom half (in population number) pay only 2.8 percent of all income tax. As for Barty she'll do what most people do when they give up tennis -- play pickleball.

For starters, Ash will take a deep breath and adjust to being away from the constant grind of being on the tour. She can come and go as she wishes, and skip a practice or three, during the week. Pro tennis, like any job, can be all-encompassing and having the sheer freedom to travel the world (or stay at home) will take some adjustment. Being #1 also brought with it the promotional duties of representing her sponsors, and these commitments can also be relinquished.

Well done, Ash. Enjoy your accomplishments and enjoy your legacy and freedom. You've earned it!

I think she will miss the competition. For people who have been in sports since their childhood, it can be tough. May be she will be connected to sports in someway - commenting on matches, exhibitions, organizing events etc. I would be bored if I had to wake up every morning and not know what to do after having my morning coffee. I hope she has envisioned her life after tennis already.

You make it sound like she's gonna go through hell after this announcement. Like she's about to enter a battlefield or a ten-year prison sentence.

Quite to the contrary, she'll feel relief and then enjoy herself in ways many of us can only fantasize about while in our Disneyland moods.

I always know what to do after having my morning coffee. It is always the same every day.
With you we know

Coffee before tennis can cause urgent bathroom requirements
I don't like coffee as such, and have only two cups in the morning. To me, coffee is a ritual to ensure proper bowel movement. I avoid it at other times because it causes unnecessary bowel movement and prevents sleep at night. I take my coffee without sugar to save calories.
Morning coffee is essential for a good dump

You can't help feeling that Barty did not have a deep commitment to tennis. I think a rec player like myself is more dedicated to tennis.

Bizarrely enough, playing tennis is one of the things she's going to do in retirement. Of course playing tennis often involves an element of competition. If you're competing, would you prefer to compete for $50 in the local club championship, or for $3 million at one of the majors? Unless she's in the small minority who'd prefer a more relaxed atmosphere of playing for $50, she might be back.

Not sure. Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova both play tennis recreationally with ordinary folks long after retirement. They seem to have no ego problems doing that.

Barty has a net worth of $20 million, it a great time to start a family and doing other stuff too. Tennis is a grind and at 26, perfect time to retire! Retiring after 30 might be to late if you want a big family. Usually, it around 2 years between children.

I thought she would play a few more years and retire around 29-30 like Graf. She may do a Henin or Clijsters and make a comeback after retirement. I applaud the decision of taking yourself out of the sport if you aren't fully committed and don't feel motivation to play. I rather have a player retire then tank matches or cry because they want to be on the court. Some other players in the ATP and WTA tour should follow her lead.

If she is never going to be in our stadiums or on our TVs again, she just goes back to being one of 8 billion people on earth trying to find their own happiness - should we care what she does? Hope she is happy doing whatever she wants to do and just the journey of trying new things is fun for her after the grind of the pro tour.

Barty should manage her money well.
Most pros who quit early come back to earn more money as the assets get squandered through mismanagement... à la Borg.

Hope she has good advisors

She doesn't seem the type to splash her money around. It looks like she is living in a swanky mansion but plans to live there the rest of her life apparently. Will be interested to see what she does as 25 is too young to retire and just do nothing regardless of wealth

it's not just about her... it's the people around who may suggest wild schemes or just be imprudent

These numbers lack meaning without context like the cumulative wealth allocated to each cohort and the purchasing power of the actual income levels that exist within them.
