What is better Nadal 1-3 in AO finals or Murray 0-5?

I was wondering this Rafael Nadal as of 2017 is now 1-3 in Australian Open finals meaning 1 win and 3 losses, Andy Murray was 0-3 so 0 wins and 3 losses, what do you think is the better record.

Nadal. Also 2 of the finals he lost were really close matches, the 5th set in 2012 and 2017 finals could have went either way.

Murray was about as close in the 2012 SF.

Yeah, he went to 5 sets. I just think the fact that Rafa was up a break and but for an upsurd misfire on the easiest backhand ever would have had 40-15 And a chance to go up 5-2 and nearly seal the title, adds a little. He didn't just push Novak. He had him on the ropes and should have finished the match off.

But yes, that was clumsy. Murray did go to 5 in the previous round.

Tbf Murray faced a more fresh Novak than RAFA did at the same tournament.

Incredibly physical effort by Novak, though, beating Murray 7-5 in the fifth then Rafa in 5 back to back.

Here’s a question: We’re the semis staggered schedule-wise like they seem to be always? If so, which finalist had just 1 day to recover? Just curious; btw, THAT STAGGERED SCHEDULING SEMIS MUST CHANGE.... just like the Wimby 5th set format and this “finish a match in the conditions you start” regardless of weather... and I hear Aussie is considering 5th set TB change?

Murray also had BP's in the 5th set at 5-5 to serve for the match.

Nadal was lucky he didn't have to play Djokovic in nearly every final like Murray did.
Oh, please stop. In all finals but 2011 (in 2013 he also was very good, especially on serve, but Murray still had chances) Djokovic looked very much beatable, Murray can blame only himself for being so bad physically and mentally. Nothing to do with bad luck here.

I also remember having the feeling that Murray in ‘12 Aussie semi controlled more points and put himself in winning positions. He just failed to convert a la Andy Murray. Clearly, this evinces Novak’s tennis prowess.

Well, actually, as we saw in that other thread about Fed and Sampras at Wimbledon, having anything but a 0 in one category actually mars your record and devaluates your achievements, so Murray's is best by a fair margin, of course (like infintely better). That immaculate 0 win makes him the best by far.

You're welcome.

Hehe.
Now that Federer has started losing early, either his record will improve, or this concept will need adjustments :)
At least be sure to tank the final if you are not 100% sure of winning. According to the Sampras/Federer thread its way better to lose in the semis than in the final.

But yes, losing early is good for Fed;)

Thank you. This was the answer I was looking for.

Facing Djokovic in 4/5 finals isn't bad luck then I don't know what is. Had to play Federer in the other. No wonder Djokovic won so many AO.

Yeah and he only took Djokovic to 5 once and went down tamely for the most part the other times. Murray's got impressive consistency at the AO but that's it.

I think he has showed a high level but folded easily. Like in AO 13, was up a set and early in the 2nd set tiebreak, he folded due to a feather :D

That backhand -.-

Good level for two sets but yeah that's it. Murray is just a consistency freak, he's been a part of good quality 5 set matches but he's not had a high quality run against great opponents in a row or a legendary match - and no the 2012 SF wasn't that good :p

Djokovic looked beatable to you in 2016. LMAO

First set in the final was awesome but he wasn't great in sets 2&3. Overrated tbh, first two sets of the SF and first set of the F were crazy high but otherwise he wasn't Godly.
He just looked to me that he could have played even better if he had to

Her looked beatable during most of the tournament with the only exception being first two sets against Federer. Murray really could have done better but of course he didn't.
He played poorly against Simon and the first two sets against Nishikori but the way he handled Federer and Murray I have never seen him so relaxed. As if they weren't even on the same level as him.

It was pretty good, better than Fed/Cilic this year, no? ;)
