In Louisville a house blew to bits (literally...just a hole in the ground now) from apparently a gas leak explosion (gotta be a suresh joke there), or a meth lab detonation. One dead. Several wounded. 6 or 7 other houses in the area condemned due to structural damage from the blast.

The Atlanta child murders of black children from 1979-1981 are being re-examined now. Below are two random articles about it. I really am not following it well now but perhaps I'll start. I remember it starkly although I didn't live in this area at the time they occurred. Used to love reading true crime stories and I read a book about the case long, long ago. What exactly prompted the review of the case I don't know.

Inspection work on the causeway bridge looks to be coming to an end! I'm hoping no cracks were found. If so the repair workers could make traveling off island unpleasant.

Homelessness is at an all time high in my city in the UK. I can't walk 5 minutes without one asking me for money. Starting to annoy me now. Even when I am on my phone it's like a dog humping your leg for money. Dude, I am on the phone!!!!!!!!

Kind of chuckling about this: in Illinois, there's a radical pro-abort bill pending in the General Assembly: news media gave great coverage to a few hundred marchers in Chicago. . . and they conveniently ignore the 3-4,000 that regularly march in the pro-life parade. Hypocrisy, to be sure. So as an old journalist, I'm smiling at the blindness.

Sure all you can do is to find something cynical to gloat over while the freedoms of women are being snatched away in other places, but that probably fits into your smug misogynist religious world view.

I live in the UK. The left believe it's because of a lack of opportunities in our country. The right think it's because of drugs/bad decisions.

I think each case needs to be analysed independently and a generalisation is pointless.

In my experience, as a Christian, I'd be 100% glad if I could help the homeless in a way that's effective. Heck, I cut a check last month to our town's homeless shelter. . . I know the money will be put to good use there! But giving an individual contribution is highly problematic for me; in my personal experience doing this, it's not really been a way to help.

Right. In each case, take a separate analysis. . . but if there are people (even perhaps a minority of people) who want the state to take action to remedy a perceived problem, then policy will be proposed, and effective policies are those that address the largest number of needs. So generalization of some sort is always needed in arriving at policies, rules, laws. But, yeah, at day's end, each case is a single individual that should be judged on specific facts.

Europeans were illegals to Precolumbian America. Their diseases killed millions.
Should they have been vetted?

Good point! Knowing what we now know, this was a massive inadvertant crime against humanity! And sailors shouldn't have brought the Black Death to Europe.

I give money to genuine homeless people if I have a good night at the casino. If not, I am not wasting bankroll for future casino sessions.

Yeah, I know the "right" way is to buy McDonald's Dollars and hand those out. The shelter makes sure they get clothing and a place to sleep that's safe. Local Christian churches in our town have organized a schedule of weekly free meals to the homeless. One day, it's at the Lutherans, the other it's at the Methodists, etc. Plenty of volunteers helping out.

In the same way, on a larger scale, it is better to address the problems in the system by creating equality, rather than relying on people with an agenda to feel good about themselves. The feel-good mentality results in a need to have suffering, because without that, the opportunities to feel good are gone.

We hav had low 70's for highs the last few days, which is unheard of for Arizona in May. We usually rock 90+ degrees for Memorial weekend and it is currently 65 degrees with a high of 74 today.

Cray cray.

Some of these beggars aren't really homeless, it's their job. They set up camp outside shops etc
Several fellows were followed years ago. Met and shared a half million dollar home.

The issue is more complicated than this statement suggests, imho. Also, imho, I'm done with this thread, so go to it, O Lord of Music!

I found this ad on CL local activities partner site today and I started thinking about you:

Wrestling partner

I'm a mid 50's male looking for an age appropriate FEMALE to participate in adult wrestling classes. My wife has found an ex bf to practice with, so I'm looking for the same situation as her. Would luv to practice 2-3 times a week/month.

As a Toronto resident:

Some positives include: Raptors are flying high (Kawhi plz stay), weather is getting warmer (finally), and lots of summer events are on the horizon
Some negatives include: Doug Ford being the Ontario premier (yuck), housing and gas prices cost an arm and a leg, and getting a stable job is harder than running for the POTUS these days

I moved away from Atlanta in 1978 and remember being quite shaken by the news. Very sad and scary. I will definitely read up on the re-examination.

Our town of 10,000 lost a fine young man, Riley Howell, in the shooting at UNC Charlotte a few days ago. He tried to stop the shooter and lost his life. Saved others in the process. These things shouldn't happen

It’s the globalization process. It brings the good and the bad.
Europeans carried diseases that original Americans were not immune to. Like common flu, all the “poxes”, small pox, chicken pox; syphillis, you name them. They killed more than warfare and conquest. It’s all documented.

Globalization trys to balance things, they bring one side down to elevate the other. I guess its good if your on the low side, bad though if your on the high.

Its harder to get a dog into another country than it is an illiterate hiv+ person now a days. Dogs are vetted, people not, its funny

Dogs are not subject to political persecution because cats are not in charge of the secret police, so dogs are not vetted and lucky for them.

While this is true, you neglect to mention that they fully intended to commit genocide with warfare and weapons.
