^ German pop, not true Krautrock
The Scorpions
Neither Scorpions nor The Scorpions or similar groups belong in this discussion.

While some may include all German rock bands from the late 60s and 70s as Krautrock bands, Krautrock, as a musical genre, applies to a more select group (like the ones listed in the poll above). This genre of music refers to a style of electronic music that included elements of rock, jazz improvisation, experimental music and ambient music.

After discovering Pink Floyd in the late 60s, I became aware of the influence of the electronic music of avant garde composer, Karlheinz Stockhausen, on PF and other groups of the 60s and 70s. His music influenced jazz artists such as Miles Davis as well as a number of rock groups such as The Beatles (Day in the Life), Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, The Who and Frank Zappa.

Stockhausen was hugely influential on the (true) Krautrock groups that came out of Germany in the 60s and 70s. Members of Can and Kraftwerk actually studied with Stockhausen. I appreciated the music of these guys as well as most in the poll above. However, my favorite of the Krautrock music genre by far was Tangerine Dream. They have released numerous (100+) studio albums and have been heavily involved in movie soundtracks (30+). The soundtrack of Risky Business provides a good example of their film music.

Bumpin' the thread just to see if it might prompt more poll voting. Perhaps there are just not that many TW fans of the prog rock or krautrock genres.
