What is the best Natural gut and poly combo?

im looking for a power spin combo if possible. I'm trying to go for gut mains and poly crosses but idk if poly mains and gut crosses are better. Right now I'm thinking luxilon nat gut as mains and alu power spin 127 or alu power rough 125. I want to know if theres better replacements if possible and if multifilament is a good substitute for gut. I probably will use gut mains unless multiple someones says otherwise. im trying to pair this with a control racquet but idk about how the power will turnout with that.

What's the racquet in question and what are some of the string setups you've enjoyed in it up until now? And FYI, gut/poly will be a fair bit more powerful (and snappy) than poly/gut.

I normally play full bed poly but just started w/ full bed multifilament but its a bit to harsh(could also just need to break them in/use them more). I'm using a power racquet right now but am probably going to switch to a players racquet. possible the gravity mp, prostaff 97 or maybe pure strike 97 gen 4. I am still open to suggestions since its a bit new.

what poly were you using where a full bed of multi is considered too harsh?

idk completely i just feel that I either strung to tight or something went wrong because after using multi my arm/ elbow started hurting

There is no best as. everyone has there personal preferences. VS Gut is the industry standard, but I prefer Lux Gut as it has less power, lasts a little longer and is a little stiffer.

My personal favorite setups in my Blade 98 are (all strung 56/52).

Lux NG/4G Soft
Lux NG/Poly Tour Fire
Lux NG/Tourna Black Zone

There are infitnite setups, you just have to find what works for you. General rules:

1. NG in the mains.
2. Cross should be a round slick poly with better than average tension maint.
3. String the NG tighter.

out of curiosity have you tried 55/4 - 50/49?

I don’t use gut/poly anymore, but when I did I always strung the gut 4 pounds more than the poly cross. I also never went below 55/51, but settled on 56/52. i like the gut main on the tighter side as it is still extremely comfortable at higher tensions. It will lose some tension as it is played as well, but nothing like full poly.

for the poly crosses, im thinking of alu power spin 127, alu power rough 125 alu power soft 125 or polytour fire 125 what do you think I should go with, im leaning to the rough, w/ poly, soft and spin all tying for a close second

also as an update right now I have cut my choices down to the gravity head mp and the prostaff 97 v14 and the head pure drive

Poly Tour Fire is excellent. i would stay away from shaped strings as they can cut into the gut. ALU Rough is more indented than shaped and is popular on tour, but I wouldn’t use any of the ALU line as they don’t hold tension very well whereas gut has thr best tension maintenance. The gap between the mains will get large pretty quick. Just my opinion.

gotcha. do you know if the poly tour fire offers good spin because I couldnt seem to find that anywhere. also is it a soft string or is it harsh?

The cross has little impact on the stringbed it‘s main purpose is to let the mains slide. Gut/poly hybrids with a smooth round poly cross have good spin in general and Poly Tour Fire is silicone infused so they are very slippery for the gut main.

it is medium stiffness, however as the gut main is 80-90% of the stringed feel you can use stiffer strings as a cross. Actually I prefer a stiff poly cross as it tames the power of the gut. I used to use 4G and 4G Soft without any issues and I would never string them as a full bed.

Super arm friendly and great performing set-up, it is just costly especially for a string breaker like myself. I would get 6 hours or so before snapping the gut, but some people go 30+ hours. Depends on your game and the setup.
