What is the deal with Jackson State University?

What is the deal with Jackson State University? If you look at the ITA results website they are 0 – 26 this year in dual matches. That is a little weird but how about of their first 18 matches 15 were against ranked opponents. In those 18 matches Jackson State won a total of 2 lines. They won their first set of the year during the 12th match. Their UTR team power Rating is 63. That gives them an average UTR rating for the top 6 players of 10.5.

The University of Arkansas (UTR team power rating 77) played 4 dual matches against JSU on February 14th. Each dual match was 4 lines of singles with no doubles. UoA never lost a set.

The University of Alabama (UTR team power rating 79) played 4 dual matches against JSU on March 1st. Same story. No doubles and only 4 lines of singles for each dual match. Never lost a set. I don’t see how these could even be considered practice matches. Kerznerman (UTR 13.47) .vs. Gonkstaris (UTR 10.54) result 6-0,6-0. A UTR rating of 13.47 against 10.54 ?!? That match probably lasted 15 minutes.

University of Mississippi played them twice, LSU played them twice, Tulane, Mississippi State, NC State, UoMemphis.

It looks like a bunch of good teams padding their win columns. I don’t see how a bunch of 4 point wins helps these ranked teams so I must be missing something.

What am I missing?

not missing anything, the stupid .500 rule and schools taking advantage of it, definitely needs to be looked at

OK, now it makes perfect sense.

Alabama played 6 fake dual matches on March 1st and 2 fake matches on March 7th. The ones I consider fake are where they don’t bother to field a full lineup. Of their 15 wins 7 are fake. I guess it is no coincidence they are 15 – 15.

Arkansas has 6 fake dual matches. Of their 11 wins 6 are fake. They have another weird trick where they will pick the lines to leave “unscheduled”. So on a given match they will play 2,4,5,6 I guess they do this to get around the problem of having their #6 guy playing #1 one week and #6 the next.

It certainly smells bad. Whatever the NCAA intended with the .500 rule this can’t be it.
