What is the GS totals of the Big 3 if Djokovic's and Federer's age were swapped?

You really need to get out more and start playing some ball with people who do know what they're talking about. I've already given you every dot you need to put together, but your understanding of tennis remains so lacking I find it fruitless to try again.

K I've done you irredeemables another favor and dug up this pertinent data mining of mine:

That's on clay, which I assume not even you jokers would argue has undergone a dramatic transformation. Back to the drawing board, kids!

Speaking of who:

shorter version: have no arguments, don’t understand the data, let’s attack the poster.

well done!

Let's see, I've got more obscure data in my collection than all of you jokers combined and yet you think I'm the one who doesn't understand the #s. I mean you keep pushing this ridiculous nonsense that those FO matches were indicative of old ATGs' real potential after I've shown you how they actually played off clay. Why the hell should I waste more of my breath when you refuse to acknowledge reality?

I think your perception of young Fed's mentality is so off as to be completely laughable, honestly. I feel like it's a knee-jerk reaction to some of the obviously partisan hypotheticals surrounding Fed made by Fed fans, but this might probably be even worse.

First of all, he did face a pretty good Roddick in 2003 anyway so it's not like he'd react much differently on the mental side against 2009 Roddick. Tennis-wise, sure, because 2009 Roddick played a better match.

But you have to realize that at this point Fed was hitting a heck of a hot streak. He was a man on a mission that tournament and it helped that he was the guy chasing glory rather than trying to defend it for so long as he's been doing the past decade. As far as purely Wimbledon 2003 is concerned, I don't believe there's anyone who could have beaten him on that grass (Sampras could on the old grass). I think Fed would relish being the challenger to the throne rather than the defending champion. The 2001 match against Sampras is a fairly good exhibition of that kind of mentality, but he was a bit of a headcase in between some of those tournaments. When his game clicked, though, as it did for Wimbledon 2003, there's really not much stopping him.

Incredibly insane underrating of the guy and his mentality here. That is, if this is indeed a serious post and you're not pulling my leg.
Nah, Djokovic not winning a single Wimbledon and maybe sneaking a US Open if things align while Federer has 30+ and multiple Calendar Slams... Those suggestions, as they are not said in jest, definitely take the cake lol.

Atleast 5 CYGS or 7?

Well, 35 is exaggerating a little too much he didn't play that much finals,no? Fed grabed what he could have, I don't see him winning 25+ in any era, I still think he gets 2-3 RG at most(2015,2016, maybe 2021 not so sure but let him have it), not more than 10 Wibledons, I think he did fairly well at AO, but let's give him one more meaning 7, and at USO, as he peaked at 24, and having Djokovic and Nadal, already matured, I think he platoed there, but 6 as record holder is fair enough. So 26 and I think I was really generous, like really. If you disagree with any of these numbers, feel free to write yours :) And I don't agree, Djokovic would be second in race for sure, behind Fed ofc, he was really good at RG and USO in early years, stopped by Nadal and Federer only, his only real competition at Wimbly and USO would be Roddick, at RG till 2006 I don't see anyone denying him. AO, well really hard to tell how he would cope there, as he has 9 titles, but I don't see him winning more than 6, just like Fed, maybe even smaller number

It is no an exaggeration because this Federer (87) would be reaching more finals too in the absence of Nadal/Novak putting him under pressure.

( PS : The older Novak and the 1 yr older Nadal would be eaten alive by 1987 born Federer)

Novak will end up 3rd because he is a hard courter who was a failure on Grass until Boris Becker tutioned him at age 26-27, so if he is born in 1981 then 27 yrs old would be 2008 year when Nadal would be at his peak and probably a 2 time defending champ as well, Novak would then face Federer from 2009 as well, also there is a possibility that Federer matures earlier since he did beat Sampras before his 20th birthday so if Roger (81) struggled from 98 till 02 because of fast grass to slow grass transition then Roger (87) will be directly be playing on slow grass from 2004 onwards, I see him being a wimbledon winner as early as 2007 or 2008, so this doesn't look good for Novak.

If 35 is an exaggeration then take 28+ Slams, he will be winning this much and making more finals too. Most of the slams from 2008-2009 onwards with the exception of French would go to Federer.......Nd yes Novak will suffer a lot in this scenario.

Which is cool, because in this Bizarre "Sunnyverse*, Novak and Rafa would be billionaires, and Fed just getting by.

Nope
The 2000s would be a lull period for Tennis with Rafa and Novak unable to earn big bucks, Sharapova would still be earning more than them until 2008-09 and then the emperor would take charge and endorsement levels would rise manyfolds, Federer would still be at 700-800+ today and Novak would not be any more than the same figure, infact he would be lesser.... Rafa would also be lesser obviously

Federer would become a billionaire by 2023 or 2024 if not by 2022 itself because Fed would win more slams in 2010s so more money would also flow in .....

I think that Djokovic would probably end with 3 or 4 CYGS since he is more complete and superior player than federer while later in his career i suspect that wining wimbledons against young Fed would ve tougher challenge

@RaulRamirez - Federer earned 700+ of his 1 Billion+ in the 2010-2021 period, what makes you think that a Fed who becomes a star in 2009-2010 won't be making more than that amount since he will be winning most of the slams in the 2010s ??

He would still be around a Billion and Novak would be lesser since his productive period (slam winning peak) would fall in the 2000s when the incomes were lesser, so Novak might be only as much as he is now or maybe even lesser

You think Nadal and Roddick would allow Novak to win wimbledons in the 2000s ?

One suggestion turns Fed into a 30+ Slam winner with considerably more achievements while still leaving Djokovic with at least some Slams if not very many, the other turns Fed into what essentially amounts to a player who was never able to break through and win a Slam or multiple Slams. Not even an ATG talent. 20 to nothing. I think one is certainly more outrageous than the other. You are right, however, that the person making that claim wasn’t completely serious.

Novak born in 1981, Nadal born in 1986 and Federer born in 1987, Federer would now have the age advantage, he would be using his big 97 racquet since early years, also he would not have to play 98-01 on slow grass and have grass changed in 02, in this scenario he would directly turn pro in 2004 on the slow grass, this means by 2007-08 itself Federer would be making wimbledon finals with a bigger racquet, even Nadal stands no chance.

I want that thing you're using!

I want that thing you're using!

Federer cannot be stopped by anyone once he is in 1987 born age group.

Roger grew up on fast courts and played from 98-01 on those and then courts started slowing starting with Grass in 02, but if Roger is born in 1987 then you can expect Roger to reach semis/finals in 01 itself as he could mature earlier as he be accustomed to slower courts quicker than he was, plus same footspeed as Nadal and a bigger racquet, Nadal declining quick from 11 and Fed getting stronger, Novak reaching 30 (his age in 2017) in 2011, it will be a bloodbath ..... Roger would be Unstoppable !!!

Let's see, I've got more obscure data in my collection than all of you
no idea what data you have as you have cited none. I, on the other hand, did.

HIIT type points (lengthy rallies at maximum speed crisscrossing the court) are the main reason for the increased physical requirements in modern tennis and did not even exist in Borg’s time, much less Laver’s. This is easily checked by both looking at videos of matches of those players and by looking at data on rally length in Tennis Abstract.

Borg at his peak lost to a 42 year old Pele in a 100M race and he was smoked by Gretzky.

Borg's athleticism is outdated and weak compared to athletes in the modern era, he would not even beat Murrray/Stan/Roddick/Hewitt, let alone the big 3.

Easy Djokovic is far superior.

Djokovic before Boris Tutions was not better than 2003 or 2004 Roddick, plus Nadal of 07-08 is also quite high a player, you are underestimating these players by calling Novak aged 20-26 superior on grass

HypoGOAT Fed sweeps all the seasons and never loses a match.

/thread

He will certainly lose some matches, after all he is human.

However with age gap nullified and in his favor, with a bigger racquet, level footspeed, more strength in his body as he would be more into the baseline era ....... scary ..... Federer might win 30+, we might be looking at 10-12 Wimbledons, 9-10 USOs and at least 7 AOs as well, plus 3 frenchs as well after 2014 when Nadal would be down.

Really scary beast, he might have keep on winning slams until 2025 and would have completely killed Tennis by having all the records......some 35+ slams in total by 2025 and he retires out of Boredom.

I don't think Ferrer,Costa and Gaudio can stop Djokovic at RG, not sure for Kuerten either, Djokovic in period from 2005 to 2009 was literally only loosing againts Nadal, so min of 2 more RGs for him. And while I agree that early Djokovic has no chances at Wimbly, if he is born earlier he would have hired someone for grass lot earlier, Djokovic would trash Roddick and Hewitt in every W, except in 2003(IMO peak Roddick). I can only see peak Safin, Roddick and maybe 2009/2010 Murray and Delpo having chances againts Djokovic in 2000's. And ofc, Nadal at RG after 2005(not in 2005). Young Nadal againts peak Djokovic at Wimbly with any net skills? I'd bet on Djokovic easily, as their matchup is in Djokovic's favour there(maybe 2008 W for Nadal 50/50 chances, after that Roger sweeps everything,so possible Nadal never wins Wimbly and USO in this situation   ). And pause in 2003 and 2004 for Djokovic shouldn't exist, minimum of three slams there, as Djokovic was pretty solid in 2009/10 period, just had great Nadal and Fed for competitors.

Age 22 Novak was stopped by Kohlschrieber of all people in straights in 2009, then next year he was beaten by Melzer.

Costa, Gaudio, Coria and Ferrero were too good on clay in those times, Novak isn't winning the French Open before 2005, assuming he is at his peak on clay I am giving him the win over Nadal in just 05 but that is too generous of me, Nadal won 11 titles on clay that year and Novak would be growing up in the 90s instead of 00s this time, so he would not turn pro on the slow courts, he would turn pro on the fast courts, do you think such a guy would be a threat vs Nadal even with a double handed backhand ???

Novak might never win the FO or win just once if he avoids Nadal like Federer did if he was born in 1981, this is not because of he not being better than Federer vs Nadal, regardless of that Nadal's increased footspeed and power would be too much to subdue in a 5 years younger scenario.

Problem is anyone born in 1981 happens to be too far in age vs a teenage prodigy nadal, so if the year 2005 missed the bus then 2006 onwards defeat is certain, only way to win FO is avoiding Nadal and thats why Federer has 1 pathetic FO in 2009 ..... I cannot imagine Novak any better no matter what he does, he can win a max of 05 and 09 or maybe just 09, thats how things roll if born in 1981

Ok and back to the future...Novak has two RGs. The end. Lol. I don't know why you spend so much energy talking about what he wouldn't have won if he was born in "xxxx", or if he was the same age as "xyz". He's the youngest player in the OE to make the SF at all 4 Slams. The writing was on the wall from the beginning for him to complete a career Slam in his era. He just would have done it sooner had he not had to contend with two GOAT candidates from the beginning of his career.

Those GOAT candidates were old and in decline, way past their time, plus he lost to to Pigeons like Stan-Murray who are like Hewitt-Roddick type losers, so Novak's level at his peak was clearly lacking

I think it be close to the same. Though the bad thing for Fed is even in his peak with Djokovic in decline he would still mentally gift a slam or 2 too Djokovic

Agree completely after 2005 Djokovic stands no chance at RG, but before 2008 Rafa stands no chance against Djokovic at Wimbly too(2005,06,07 W to Novak,2008 50/50% againts Nadal, after that I don't see anyone beating Federer for 6,7 years straight). Djokovic lost only to Nadal at RG in 2006,07 and 08, for three straight year. I think he would cope good againts these guys, especially if in 2007/08 form. I think two out of four times he would be favorite, maybe in 2002 not, but in rest of three why not? Djokovic problem in 2007,08,09 and especially in 2010 was pressure of not giving his best in late stages of GS after his first GS win(also many looses in tight matches, as well as asthma and breathing problems) and having prime Roger and peak Rafa in his way

Maybe nothing changes because of surfaces. Djoker would struggle more with the faster surfaces of Fed's time and Fed would struggle more with the slow surfaces of Djoker's time. I think it all evens out and offsets each other

Well Djokovic is better than Fed on grass so i dont see what would be the problem with these other guys...

A better beggar on grass ???

At age 27 Fed had 5 wimbledons and was going into a 6th final
At age 27 Novak was a 1 timer who was a loser vs Mooray and god knows who, I need to check the list of ppl he lost to, haha

Nd you think Novak is even in the league of Federer?

Rafa in 07 stands a good chance as well to beat Novak at Wimbledon, his 06 version is beatable..
Plus Novak's form at the french open till age 23 was not great, apart from his straight set thrashing at the hands of Rafa he lost to Kohlschrieber and Melzer.... This is not how somoene who wins french open in 02 or 03 would be, Costa and Gaudio were seasoned players along with Coria, they are not losing to Novak types on clay, the 2011 Novak was almost 24, that Novak is the one who can be champion, not the ones before it.

3-1,6 titles for now...Still better.

3-1 vs an old version of Fed, remaining titles in a very very very weak grass era .....

In this current era if you remove novak and put peak Roddick and peak Murray even they can win 3-5 wimbledons with ease, the field is so crapola

Rafa: 33
Fed: 8
Djokovic: 5

Rafa the clown cannot defend titles back to back even vs non fedovic opponents, he is so weak and you fans expect him to win 33 slams??

How pathetic....

Dude, if it wasn't for Rafa's outwardly clay performance he would not even be in the GOAT conversation, remove Clay and he gets to Andre Agassi level

Imagine Djokovic winning the next 3 Wimbledon editions. o_O Still very much in the realm of possibility isn't it. The amount of salt in here would be enormous.8-B

Yes there will be salt, because we don't like vultures, sue us.
We want to see good tennis where great champions clash, not vulturing.

You might be somewhat parasitic in nature to get happy watching inferior and dull tennis, we are not, we want high octane tennis
