if it wasnt for all the tinkerer addicts we would not have the great sources of info on these boards. i am now a recovering tinkerer addict , excessive demoer, since i settled on one spec bought several vantage racquets and am leaning to play tennis where i do not constantly have to adjust for feel power etc. my game, timing, touch and feel have improved sinced i cant blame the racquet on my misses (too bad great excuse lol ) and there is a consistency that you get used to . the pros dont tinker much that is why there are paintjobs. i do not wish to discourager the tinkerers its a lot of fun but azzzurri once you start it will suck you in for a long while. have fun doing it .it is a blast to have "new "toy to try any time you make a modification

I agree with you. My "tinkering" was demo after demo, purchase after purchase. I easily hit with 50 racquets over the past few years. I believe I found a racquet I truly like, the MG Prestige MP. I have had them since last summer and I really, really like everything about them. I just wanted to make the heads a little more HL and it seems like I have done this adding leather grips. my other "tinkering" will be with the KPS88, PS 85 and TT Radical. I just want to see what happens when I make some changes.

Honestly, I am bored. Bored of too many boring tennis matches, bored of the same guys winning. I like Fed and BNadal, but could care less which one wins. Gone are the days I would scream, jump, cry and what not for a player. Don't get me wrong, there are some good matches, but it seems as if I am watching the same good match over and over. The variety is very bad. Verdasco match was a pleasent surprise. I was so rooting for him. Maybe he will get better and be in some finals.

azzurri, i understand the boredom, although fed is so graceful i never cease enjoying watching him. even nadal in his relentless style i can admire from a distance . the "young ones"(19 -21 y.o.) comong up ie murray, cilic, gublis, tsonga hopefully will give us more than the usual suspects to watch. wish you and everyone great tennis. larry10s

yes, Murray and the others you mentioned give me some hope. I just have no one to root for. No one that really like. I like Fed and his attitude, but I am just sick of him always winning and no one besides Nadal can beat this giy with any consistency. I thought Novak was the real deal, but you saw how weak he is. I actually enjoy watching the lesser known players.

Racquet Length?

This may sound stupid but what exactly is the length of a standard racquet? TW lists as 27in/69cm, and I've always been using 69cm when calculating but just realized that 27in=68.58cm and 69cm=27.165in. So what is the exact length, 27in or 69cm? 27in then I think?

I believe 68.5 is 26.97 inches (or close to it). all of my racquets measured were exactly 68.5.

so the TW letaher grips are 36 grams???? what is the weight of a typical grip then?

There was a previous post on some of the leather grips I believe the average is about 25g or there abouts.

9 pts hl is a very nice balance, in fact that's my preferred balance for my racquets as well. I don't want a frame to be too heavy as well so I've more or less kept the weight to about 350-355g strung.

I found my vantage to be 350g strung.

I too loved the MGMP and if it weren't for Vantage I'll be using the same frame abeit with some modifications to the grip handle shape and adding weight like you to 9 pts hl LOL!

As for the players, Murry is a real talent & is a world no 1 contender but for some reasons, I don't like him prob cus of his behaviour during his younger days n he has this dour n sour expression whenever he isn't playing well. Other than Nadal I'm rooting for Grigor Dimitrov. Gave Nadal a real hard time at the ABN tourney Rotterdam :).

Cheers,

how does that happen? the tension of the strings makes the cicumference of the hoop smaller? by how much on average?

Overtensioning the mains v. the crosses... or putting something like stiff poly mains at 60# and soft SG crosses at the same 60#.

The PT280 is notorious for shortening in the hoop area if not strung 'properly'.
