To refresh everyone's memory...

2013 Australian Open R16 - Djokovic won 1-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-7, 12-10
2013 US Open Semifinal - Djokovic won 2-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4
2014 Australian Open Quarterfinal - Wawrinka won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7
2015 Australian Open Semifinal - Djokovic won 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0
2015 French Open Final - Wawrinka won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4
2016 US Open Final - Wawrinka won 6-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3

I left out the 2012 US Open R16 matchup where Novak won 6-4, 6-1, 3-1 RET. Figured no one would pick that one.

So which one do you choose?

2019 Edit: Just added US Open Final since this thread was created just ahead of that match

Easily the 4th round encounter in 2013. The quality of that match was insanely great.

The French Open final last year was epic as well. Stan was in god mode that day!

2013 Australian Open match was a match where both were playing high quality tennis for the majority of it while, although the other ones were great, either player had some periods of playing poor tennis.

Their 2014 Australian Open quarter-final was an absolute thriller that went right down to the wire. After a 1st set beatdown, Stan fought back to take the match to 5 sets and won the decider 9-7. It was his first ever win over Djokovic, or any of the Big 3, in a Slam and that match marked his coming of age. A few days later he took down Nadal as well to win his first Slam title and establish himself as one of the top contenders for the first time ever in his long career!

I'm a bit surprised 2014 Aussie Open matchup isn't getting more love.

It seems that US Open 2013 is very underrated. It was a great match and for me only behind AO 2013. I only talk about about the match as such though. If importance matters as well, then French Open 2015.

FO 15, the Stanimal was in the zone, he was unlucky not to win all 4 sets, it was just good to see someone go out there in such a big match and take the bull by the horns like that. Hopefully he can take it to the Djoker again this time around.

I'm sure all you connoisseurs are correct but USO16 was probably the most important in terms of putting the air brakes on Ultron.

He won against Roger at MC 2009 I guess

AO 2013 -> AO 2014 -> FO 2015 -> USO 2013 -> AO 2015 -> USO 2016.

So pretty much standard fare. AO 2013 for overall quality of both, then AO 2014 for the closeness and upset, FO 2015 then for Stans unexpected amazing tennis, USO 2013 because it was a better quality 5-setter than AO 2015, then lastly USO 2016 because neither was as good as before, less about goating Stan and more about injured/out of form Djoko. Actually, USO 2016 was one of the lamest slams in years in general I believe.

Voted 2015 French because I remember how enthralled I was with Stan's shotmaking against a peaking Novak. I went in thinking it would be a Novak coronation (shame on me for overlooking Stan).

I picked 2015 French Open because Federers pigeon made the modern goat cry even though Djokovic did not play at his absolute best. The highest quality match would be 2013 Australian Open.

RG2015. Yeah, my guy lost, but man, what a match.
We all expected Novak to win. After 1st set, it seemed almost locked, but then the stanimal was summoned.
Djokovic played very good high-level tennis, and it wasn't nearly enough.
Stan's calmness was terrifying, his strength and precision combo was one of the best performances tennis history has ever seen, mesmerising play with inevitable outcome.

AO 2013 highest quality, RG 15 second best and most epic, AO 2014 strong mix of good and clutch, USO 13 a bit underrated but below that, USO 16 topsy-turvy but mental, AO 15 erratic eyesore with a lame ending.

If Stan beats Djoker today, he will win the Slam. I'm just not sure that Stan is back at the highest level yet! I bloody hope so though.
Come on Stan!

The confidence Stan will get from beating Novak, I think he could beat anyone after that. AO he did it with Rafa easily.

That's because Nadal's back was torn to shreds.

Maybe. But I doubt he beats Federer here this year, who is his absolute worst match up on HC.

matchup is more crucial factor than confidence in this case
