What kind of racquet is Felix Mantilla playing with?

Would anybody be surprised to hear that Volkl plans on "V-Engine'ing" its major racket lines? From the width of Mantilla's frame, it's a V-Engine Catapult, or V1, or some combination of both. Not only do the cosmetics not match up with the V-Engine Tour 10, Mantilla's racket is much wider. My guess is that it plays extraordinarily similar to his old CAT V1 MP. For us, a beauty of the V-Engine design is that Volkl can't simply paintjob an older model!

I should add, while you cannot see the width of Mantilla's frame in the attached picture, other photos of Mantilla from the Monte Carlo event (Getty Images, Yahoo Sports, etc.) do show alternate views of this mystery frame.

in europe they have the v-engine catapult10..the one mantilla is shown using has either big grommets or catapults at 3 and 9, but the cosmetics dont even match the v-engine cat10..so who knows. i would be surprised if they v-engined the entire line..i think the verdict is still not in on the v-engine popularity and performance and i dont think they would just abandon non v-engine models that are selling well. tons of european pros are using tour10's and c10's. ed

ed, I didn't mean to suggest every model would be V-Engine'd. I did mean to say that it would make perfect sense to V-Engine select models from Volkl's various product lines. Of the Catapults, the V1 is a logical choice. It relates back to one of Volkl's most popular frames for years, and it was Mantilla's model in the recent past. By the way, what's your source that there's a V CAT 10 in Europe - I didn't know that, and I don't think the website reflects that??

Went to Getty Images and did a Mantilla search. It's a "Tour __" based on a picture that shows the sidebeam of the frame. Mantilla's hand is covering the exact number, dammit.

It'll be the V-Engine Tour 8. Late last year Felix for some odd reason went back to his Tour 8s, and now has been hitting with this prototype version of the Tour 8. Not sure why he gave up the Cat V1, but things happen that's that.

Colpo - go to the "German" Volkl site to see pics of the V CAT 10.
There is a European WTA player (forget her name) using this frame whose picture was in the Yahoo tennis photo gallery with it several weeks ago.

You're thinking of both Shenay Perry and Stosur from Australia. They're both using by Volkl's own admission on thier internaitonal site the new Tour 10 V-Engine Mid Plus, NOT the Catapult V-10 Engine.

No, she was not. The cosmetic for the Tour 10 V-Engine is differnet for the mid and the mid plus models. Go check it out on the Volkl international site, right in the news section I believe.

Thomas - Well it was some other Volkl player using the Cat V 10.
The picture is no longer available from the "What V-Engine frame is this?" post several months back.
